Im not sure if I overlooked a subforum, but is there a Sherdog-Pro-Betting-thread? I havent bet on fights a lot,but I do bet on other sports. Is it as profitable as others sports?

I don’t have a huge amount of experience betting on fights, but if you feel a certain way about a matchup and the odds are good, then it’s worth a bet. I like to do my parlays but the judges will often screw me over. There’s a lot of variables in MMA and it’s always a risk as a fighter could get injured, could get poked in the eye and lose, could get screwed by the judges or have the ref stop the fight early etc. I don’t take betting that’s seriously right now. I will watch some tape and form my opinions but right now I’m only betting small amounts, so it’s not a big deal if I lose. Betting on fights will at least enhance your entertainment levels.

I'm an avid sports gambler and probably follow mma closer than any sport. That being said I do worse betting mma than any other sport. I end up betting with my heart or chasing the dogs with big odds. I did actually hit my parlay on last weeks event though so I'm on fire carrying it into this week

Do you reckon its an interesting sport if you bet with your head instead of ur heart? Or is it too risky to make money on mma?

MMA has a lot of crazy odds for underdogs compared to other sports.

Small bets on underdogs is definitely a good bet. Betting big on favourites, not so much since there's always upsets in MMA.

Its definitely very risky but it makes the fights much more exciting. One of the best pieces of advice I can give for MMA betting is dont bet until after the weigh ins. And if you ever see someone with huge odds against them in UFC, theres always a chance you can hit that bet. Boxing is known for having huge mismatches but there are far more ways to win in an MMA fight. I think its pretty ridiculous for anyone in the UFC to be a 10 to 1 favorite.

They also have crazy odds on the prop bets for finish/decision too.

Finish+decision wins have +1000 odds sometimes. Nunes subbing Miesha was +1100.

I partially disagree with this.

It's not impossible to make money betting on favorites in MMA, you just have to be careful not to bet on massively overhyped favorites.

Typically, I wont touch a favorite if they're the main event, or a favorite of Dana. (Maycee barber etc.) The prelims and undercard are where I believe theres money making potential on favorites.

Everything I've said is probably common sense though.

Betting on a finish/sub seems pretty dangerous with some fighters.
With some dudes you have a 50% chance that he will finish with gnp and 50% chance that he will sub someone after having them hurt.
Like with Nunez even if I was sure she would fisish Tate I would never be able to guesse between a tko and sub

Basically this. I remember one card where I think all the underdogs won their fights. MMA is so unpredictable by bettors and bookies alike you can always get some value bets in if you're a good evaluator of talent.

I think I bet on Rani Yahya once and that was the one time I won a bet. So I'm now at about 1-37 overall.

My advice from betting on MMA for the last 12 years or so is stay the fook away this shit is rigged as f. 7/10 times in main events the underdog will win. Usually whenever I bet the favorite the dog wins. Whenever im on the dog the favorite wins.

MMA is the only sport I've gambled on, so I can't compare with other sports.
My impression so far is that MMA gambling is very winnable. Otherwise, my bankroll would have vanished long ago.
I wager just to make the fights more fun to watch. Right before the event, I rush to get wagers posted on a bunch of fights, usually with little to no research. With the amounts I gamble, it's not worth it to exercise due diligence.
I make money consistently for the first 8 months. For the second 8 months, I've been losing money, but I'm still close to break-even in my 'career.' That's after many hundreds of wagers.
Like the commenter above said, I've made most of my money betting against casual hype. After that, betting for or against guys I've seen on the regionals who have moved up to UFC.
Summary: if I can break even, someone with real money at stake should be able to do great.

I think when it comes to ncaa and nfl I look at it as a way to make some money which is easier said than done. I almost look at mma betting as just something extra as I watch the fights. I'm only playing a couple 10 or 20 dollar parlays. Nothing to get too worked up over.
