CM Punk 'will fight in 2016' declares Dana White as former WWE star continues wait to complete switch to UFC

CM Punk will make his highly anticipated UFC debut next year.

The former WWE superstar made the move to mixed martial arts a year ago but he is yet to step foot in the Octagon competitively.

Despite boasting a background in jiu-jitsu training, Punk - whose real name is Phil Brooks - had never ventured into MMA before he was unveiled as a high profile signing by UFC chief Dana White ahead of last December's UFC 181.

He was dispatched to Milwaukee to hone his skills at trainer Duke Roufus' camp and was understood to have suffered a shoulder injury in October.

But White insists Punk's eagerly-awaited first UFC fight will take place in 2016.

The UFC president confirmed he is already searching for an opponent to take on the 37-year-old.

And Brooks' bow could take centre stage on White's new YouTube project, Dana White: Looking for a Fight, in which he's searching for undiscovered talent around the world.

White visits small shows with friend Nick 'The Tooth' and former UFC welterweight champion-turned-analyst Matt Serra.

'[Brooks] will fight next year, 100 per cent,' said White, speaking to TSN's Off the Record host Michael Landsberg.

Also a few lame comments in the comments section from Casuals

idiot vassquez would ko this fool

Time to knock him back to reality. He is overweight (200 lbs) for a guy who is 5'11 (he adds an extra couple inches). He will get hammered in the heavyweight class.

LOOOL 200lbs before he started training maybe. More like 170lbs

Cono McGregor

one of the most talented wrestlers. shame he had backstage issues with HHH. aj lee is gorgeous. hope it works for him

lol

on a side note, the daily mail have their own ufc section now

Roufus is on salary and CM Punk says he's letting him decide when he fights, which no serious fighter would do. He will fight at UFC 200 at the earliest under UFC pressure.

The daily fail can make another article in a few months when he fails to enter the octagon and goes back to wwe

You do realise the Daily Mail is more or less a marketing platform for all kinds of shitty reality show losers or d list celebrities. Somebody no doubt financed the story.

maybe it was an old Australian guy

yeah

things have definitely changed in terms of mma coverage over here the past 1-2 years

I've noticed that too. I Sky + the events and watch them Sunday. I have to avoid looking at the Sky sports news app as the results are usually quite high up on the main stories and I've ruined it for myself a couple of times. Accidentally seeing the Ronda result Sunday morning was the worst

*refuse to click link and visit the daily Heil*

For the non-brits in the crowd, the Daily Heil, or Daily Fail, is like a middle class, racist, homophobic, hate filled version of TMZ

Most of the time they just make stuff up.
