Hi guys. I know that this glove has been reviewed a couple of times, but i think a new review after a few years is not a bad idea, since some gloves change there quality from time to time.

Brand: Twins Special
Color: Red
Size: 16 oz.
Model: BGLL-1 (Lace-Up)
Material: Leather
Country of origin: Thailand
Purchased at: Twins Special Philippines Official Distributor
Price: Php 2,750 (around US $62.5)

-Construction:

Leather: They are made in genuine leather which smells great and after 2months of having them the leather smell is still there. The smell is not like Cleto Reyes though but still smells great. The leather is thicker than my Twins Velcro (Bgvl-3). That's the only leather glove I can compare it to. It is smooth and painted evenly. The red tone that they used is darker and "red'er" than my Cleto Reyes Facesaver.

Stitching: The stitching is great. All even and every thing looks tight.

Logo print: Right out of the box it looks great and flawless. After a few weeks of training it gets chipped off from the sports tape. It also cracks on the wrinkled parts (the wrinkle that the glove makes at the back of the hand when you open your hand). And also the logo is not centered.

-Fit: The lining is very smooth and feels very good. It doesn't have vent holes, but I really don't notice the difference if I compare it with my bgvl-3 that has a few.

I can make a good fist in these, thumb placement suits me well. They are a little wide, but my hand do stay in place when I use them. I have slim and regular length hands and the glove fits just right. Not to tight and not too loose (pre break in and post break in). I find that the "AIR" version is much tighter. The base of the thumb fits really great, it feels very secure. I just wish that the thumb compartment is a little longer though.

The lace up closure secures my wrist well and specially my palm. Which I never experienced from a hook and look glove before. Very happy with it. The cuff section doesn't wrap around my forearm. Which I don't mind.

They do need some time to brake in. I bought these gloves for sparring, but I had to do some bag and mitt work with them so that they break in faster. In the first few days my thumb would get numbed after 3 rounds then the rest of my fingers will follow by the 5th-6th round. But as I use them regularly the numbness fades away gradually from day to day.

Wrist protection is decent, I can't say its the best but it's not bad either. But IMO it is a lot better than my bgvl-3. Will never go back to Velcro after having lace-ups, unless maybe Tokushu's (thinking twice about getting a pair).

-Padding: The padding is dense but protective for the user. I'm just not sure for the sparring partner. I had no complaints from them so far. Though my coach told me that when he use to train as a pro they use the similar glove for there sparring sessions and he didn't like getting hit with it. He prefers getting hit by the Bgvl-3's which is puffier and not as dense.

-Weight: They are freaking HEAVYYYYYY!!!! I think It's because of the dense foam that they are using. They weighed at 19.2oz (1.2 lbs) each. They are so heavy that I feel like I'm in a disadvantage when sparring. IMO it's good for bag and mitt work If I want to strengthen my shoulders, because I can really feel my deltoids burning over time. I'm only 5'7 at 140lbs. so 19.2 oz. is I guess just too much for sparring IMO.

-Performance: Compared to my Bgvl-3, I can hit the target with my knuckles better with these gloves. That's the other reason why I'm sticking with western style boxing gloves or lace-up glove (which ever category this glove is in). It's easier to perform a cork screw punch with them compared to my bgvl-3. (I'm not sure if it's about the type of glove or about the construction of this particular model that makes it perform this way).

I was surprised on how well they dry up quickly. I thought that lace ups are harder to air dry than hook and loop gloves but the Bgvll-1 was IMO in par with my Bgvl-3 when it comes to air drying.

Summary:

Pros:

- Price
- Durable
- Dries quickly
- Smooth interior
- Good quality leather and leather finish
- Excellent craftsmanship
- Very good all around glove
- Can make a good fist

Love it or hate it:

- Dense foam
- Very over weight 19.2 oz. (I like it on the heavy bag and on the mitts but not sparring)
- Front heavy

Cons:

- The one and only thing that I can't forgive these gloves is when I use them in sparring. They are HEAVY! They make me very tired and sluggish easily. But this is just my own opinion. I know some people here don't mind an over weighted pair of gloves.
-Logo at the back of the hand is not centered.

Thank you all for reading. I'm not good in writing so i'm not really sure if I'm clear with all the points that I'm trying to bring out. Please go ahead and share your thoughts If you wish. Questions are very much welcome.

Here are the photos and a video of me using the gloves. See how heavy they look on me. BTW I'm only boxing a little less than a year so please excuse my form :P Enjoy!

Awesome review and pictures! Was the 'FM' something you custom ordered, of did you add it later after you got the gloves?

Those glove are pretty highly overweight. Might be worth contacting the seller about that with the pictures because you definitely shouldn't be getting a 19oz glove when you order 16s.

Thanks man. I hand painted the "FM" my self. I was thinking about sending them back but then I decided to use them for my bag and mitt strength training days. I will eventually get a new pair of sparring gloves.

Well those pics look stellar, and the gloves look great. Thanks for the review, I intend on buying one of these in the not-so-distant future and hopefully compare them to the Boons and ubiquitous Fairtex BGV1s.

Thanks IMTyson. A comparison review would be very interesting. Please do make one when you get a chance.

Haha thanks man. I also have a 12oz velcro Twins like yours, try the lace-up, they fit so much better. But it is impossible to put them on by your self.

that what deter me at lace gloves .. i think i stick at velcro !! what color your 12 oz twins? mine orange

Not a stupid question at all. It's acrylic paint, you can also use "textile" paint. It is the same paint used for silk screen printing.

Damn straight....I have acrylic paint....time to go crazy on some gloves....lol. Thanks bud!!!

Throw in some photos of your creation once your done! BTW just in case you didn't know, use water as solvent and nothing else. Or just apply as it is.
