How many times have you wondered how things would have went if you "did this instead"? But you're in a groove of tap-restart, tap-restart, which is good for it's purpose but lacks the focus on the rest of the game.
So try this, attacker with armbar fights just up to opponent tapping. So basically he just controlling a position around a kill move meanwhile...
the defender fights just up to actually escaping so basically he works to maintain a position like "in the pocket" where he can get tapped but also control various precarious positions working for reversal or counter attack but not fully committing keeping a flow in a chill state.
This is instead or in addition to just live drilling EBI/life or death situations.
Sometimes you just gotta take a breather and control an advantageous position or on the other side maybe you're trying to float with a monkey on your back and either find reversals like a d'arce or wrist/ankle locks otherwise you control a back cuddle. You wanna be in a state like that pic with Wanderlei and Shogun lol. So in a real fight you could literally turn back and "thanks for the cuddle bro" to some back taking wizard on your back.
It would be like practicing Gordon Ryan level play-with-your-prey skills way before you are experienced for them. And control is best learned from the ground up cuz you can't even get the practice time of finishing a rnc until you earn the position, so ground control, then finish/escape. And this is applicable to striking and mma.
