Nicolas Cage in Talks to Star in HBO's TRUE DETECTIVE Season 5

Nicolas Cage is deep in talks to star in True Detective season 5 — the next iteration of the moody crime drama.

The Oscar winner is up for an as-yet-unknown role in the anthology drama, but will presumably play the law enforcement officer at the center of another mystery thriller.

The season will follow up HBO tapping another Oscar winner, Jodie Foster, headlining the anthology drama’s fourth season, True Detective: Night Country, to considerable acclaim. Night Country also was considered to have revived the brand, after a less-than-stellar previous two seasons.

The fourth season’s showrunner, Issa López, is expected to return for the new season. Earlier this year, HBO announced that season five would be set in Jamaica Bay, New York. The show is expected to premiere in 2027.

Talks with Cage have been going on since at least the beginning of summer, which is when The Hollywood Reporter first reached out to HBO about the casting. Then the news was posted online Thursday by The Insneider Newsletter.

Cage has had a revival of his own as of late, appearing in several acclaimed films over the last fear years, such as Pig, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Dream Scenario.

That's awesome. I enjoyed the first 2 seasons, haven't seen the rest.

I didn't watch last season but I would give this a shot

Last season was great. Jodie Foster was really good in it.

Season 2 was the only stinker.

A whole "Bad Lieutenant" series could be fun.

That said, this show went from very high, to very low, to just merely existing. I think this franchise has less pull than "Power Rangers" at this point.

Does the last one count as season 4? I didn't watch it because of the paranormal horror shit. Feels like a different show with the name true detective slapped on it.
Season 3 wasn't bad

It would be hilarious if he was like his character from Bad Lieutenant:

That scene might be one of the Cage-iest scenes ever committed to film. Just a perfect encapsulation of what many people think of when they think of Cage. Combo of Herzog and Cage was inspired.

I actually missed out on the Foster season but will check it out. Last one I watched intently was the one with Mahershala, Stephen Dorff, and Carmen Ejogo. Good not great. Mahersh and Dorff were so good that they made you think it was going to pay off more than it actually did. Still, solid television.

Cage is a legend. If he’s on board for season 5, I’m watching.

Season 1 - incredible.
Season 2 - didn't finish it, it was that shit.
Season 3 - boring and basically a carbon copy of season 1 in terms of plot.
Season 4 - decent.

I will watch.

For a series thats lauded so.much theres like 1 good season. The Foster season was meh and thats 2nd best. ..season 2 had moments but awful. Season 3 was just boring.

Season 1 - tv series greatness n legend. Cage might get it back but needs a great co star.

They’re just never going to be able to recapture the lightning in a bottle that was season 1.

Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey just had a real chemistry, and their characters were both really well written.

They seem to have moved away from writing interesting characters. But the dialogue between them is what makes the show.

I'd love a combo of Color Out of Space and Bad Lieutenant, going deeper into the Lovecraftian themes
