Trevor Wittman, striking coach of Rashad and Carwin.
I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about his back ground and record? All I can find is 80 amateur boxing fights but no record of wins and losses.
I'm wondering if his background is purely boxing or whether he has experience in other striking arts.

And I'm not taking the approach that a sub par record for Wittman mean's he's a crappy coach, I am just curious to his background and what other arts he focusses on other than boxing.

I dont like his approach at all.

I judge guys based on how their fighgters perform, and his fighter's techinicality is always severely lacking

here's the photo i was talking about, they weren't all boxing title belts

Nicely symmetrical.

I'm guessing that's titles won by people he's trained as I can't find anything to suggest he's won titles.

i trained at his gym for around a year

in addition to boxing he is supposed to have experience in kenpo

never saw him whip out his kenpo stuff though lol

uh to my knowledge those belts are his that he won (not 100 percent sure)

well from what i heard his gym was originally a boxing gym only and once the mma thing got big they brought other guys in for that

perhaps as a strictly boxing coach he is better since that seems to be his expertise

i sparred with some of his amateur team and they were good though of course i didnt know all of their back rounds so they may have gotten their abilties else where (shrugs)

Possibly, but there are guys like Ron Frasier (Xtreme Couture) who have seemed to introduced a very good style of boxing into MMA.

I have no idea what his pure boxers are like though, so i'll reserve judgement on that.

He does seem like a good coach, personality wise. It's refreshing to have someone positive in your corner

He is a poor man's Winklejohn. Almost everyone at Jackson's would prefer to hit pad/mits with Wink than Wittman.

Grudge member here.

First things first, Trevor started with Karate as a youth, then moved on to amateur boxing. He had to give up competing due to a lung injury.

For a bit of background: the original Grudge Training Center started out as T's KO Boxing. He trained a stable boxing team with plenty of amateur and pro champions and contenders.
Soon, he expanded the gym and added a full-size octagon and mats to roll. It was on 44th and Wadsworth next to the Walgreens, and can be seen in season 1 of the TapouT show. He brought in Alvin Robinson, Bryan Youngs, Christian Allen and Mark Huerta, along with some coaches who have gone elsewhere to supplement the MMA coaching.

Trevor wanted to expand further and provide more room for the growing MMA team and interest, so the location was moved to a bigger space down the road off 44th and Kipling.

I can only say Trevor's a good guy & good coach, but he can be one-dimensional IMHO, he has one boxing style he teaches everybody, instead of tailoring a personal style for each fighter. IMHO that was the problem specifically with Eliot Marshall, he coached him into the same 'ole style which turned out poorly for Eliot.

is trevor aware of this, being that he works w/jackson; i would think it would have been brought to him to find a way to make adjustments so as to make the most of their physical/mental abilities w/in the context of using boxing.

i was under the impression he worked w/rashad for the rampage fight, who exactly does he work w/marquardt-carwin-schaub; do the other guys who go through jackson's like to work w/wittman or is it exclusively his guys from the grudge.

also is houston alexander working w/the grudge, i heard he did before he fought soko; an his boxing did look better, especially his jab.

i agree the striking can be a bit meat and potatoes and one dimensional and i think they are focused more on boxing than the whole enchilada so to speak when it comes to mma

is griff still teaching bjj there by the way?

I don't mean to offend anyone that trains with him but something about his voice just drives me up a tree and to whoever trains under him more power to you cause I don't think I could stand the sound of his voice.
