I was wondering what the price range are for quality BJJ training in Toronto now days? I'm currently paying 180$ per month, however I might need to consider other options next year when my funding is getting tight.

Thanks!

What area of Toronto are you in. It's kind of a big city.

in before "you don't care about teh beejaejaz!!1"

in other news, yeah 180 is kinda steep imo

Where are you currently training?

$150-ish seems to be the norm (factoring in taxes).

But I am no expert on all the clubs in the Toronto area.

180 is quite pricey, but it kinda depends tho. What kind of program does it include? For 180, I'll assume it's unlimited BJJ training, right? Does it include Muay Thai and MMA programs or whatever? If so, then 180 doesn't sound too bad. Where do you train?

I train at Salvosa BJJ in Scarborough, and their unlimited BJJ price is definitely much cheaper.

$90 a month unlimited BJJ, Kickboxing, Boxing, MMA, Wrestling, Sparring, Judo, and even a gymnastics class! woot!

Bruckmann's in Oshawa is unlimited bjj and much cheaper. Even our unlimited bjj plus unlimited muay thai is cheaper I believe.

$180 is a lot, that gym better be open 6-7 days a week and include kickboxing or some other kind of classes besides just BJJ. Or have somebody really famous teaching there.

I'm at Lin's currently, and it's BJJ only. How much are you guys paying for Salvosa BJJ? and how much did revolution charge?

Thanks!

I pay around $124/month
salvosa is best bro.
BEST!

bravadojj.com is woodbridge and might be an option if its not too far.

I hope this doesn't cause a huge amount of drama but my guess is Lin's is charging so much because it just became a Loyd Irvin affiliate. I could be way off with this assumption but just a thought.

I got to say something about the whole pricing thing. It's sad when I see these conversations on the web.

I can not speak for others, but at Toronto BJJ we pour our heart and soul into the place. That's probably why our students are so happy and successful. We give so much more than what we are asked (read the below quote taken form another forum from a Toronto BJJ student talking about how inspiring head instructor prof. Jorge Britto is)....

Alizio - Probably doesnt count for much because he is my coach and ive never said this to anybody. Jorge Britto changed my life and very well may have saved it. I'm thankful for that but i'm too embarrassed to tell that to him face to face but he should know he inspires a lot of ppl to be better ppl not just better grapplers.

...that it is an insult to ask us about pricing or judge us on it without training with us first. To paraphrase "a fool is someone who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing".

I understand that money is not an unlimited resource, and i am not directing this at any of the poster's, but why do we have this phenomena of people treating themselves cheaply and skimping when it comes to investing in themselves?

I know my school is not as expensive as some of the others listed here, but I guarantee if you love Jiu-Jitsu and understand value, check us out you will never think that we charge too much.

Cheers,

Josh

I don't think anyone is treating themselves cheaply here. TS stated his money situation may get tight next year.

If two schools offer the same quality instruction but one charges 40% more with no identifiable added value than it's natural as a consumer to consider the alternatives.

The car analogy was used in a previous thread and is a weak one. One is a material good which is owned solely by the purchaser to use as they please upon completion of the contract and the other is an ongoing personal service. Value then is not determined by the material good, but by the quality of instruction and overall consumers satisfaction.

How valuable is being taught an armbar? If I taught you how to armbar, I could not even fairly charge you a price, as I have no legitimate authority to teach grappling. Dave Camarillo however, his armbar instruction will be very valuable.

I know in the Toronto area there just about all of the gyms are increasing their prices. BJJ is really getting expensive.

I pay 175 for unlimited training at one downtown gym. Great location, awesome facilities and great instruction. But yeah, the prices are getting ridiculous.

OP: I'd recommend Budokan. Cesar and his group are really good. A lot of really experienced grapplers there.
