My top ten headgear avantgard just arrived. Aside from ordering a size too big, I was very happy about the head gear. TOP TEN Avantgarde Head Gear Top Ten Head Guard [TOP001] - $129.95 : Sport Karate Store, Sport Karate Sparring Gear

My head measures 55cm which was just on the edge between medium and small. I ordered a medium size; the headgear does not move around much when i strapped everything down but it was not a snug fit.

It's got the property of gel like material (very soft and elastic), but does not distort its shape (does not stretch, almost like hard rubber).

Overall the I am very happy about the purchase. Compare to the cheap ever last headgear at walmart, this head gear is way superior.

What are all these words doing here? Where's the pics?

In all honesty, I've heard Top Ten is the way to go for if you're looking for top-of-the-line head gear.

What does it feel like when you Hit it?
Not hard is it?

Wondered about the Cheek Protector version and being able to see low line

I have one of the top ten headgears myself. Great protection, while thin the material is very absorbing and there are certain pressure points on the cheeks, forehead and temples. Perfect vision, doesn't distort it at all. Thin and light also a breeze to clean. The best of the best.

You mean when you get hit? You feel the contact of the blow but there's no pain, because the Bayflex disperses the energy. I have the standard avantgarde (the competition version), but there was a guy who trained at my gym for awhile who had the avantgarde with cheek protectors and he said it didn't effect his vision at all. Besides being easy to clean I also like that the material shapes to your head after a few weeks, so you technically have a custom fitted headgear :D . There's also a traditional style version out now if you don't like the way the rubber version feels.

Check out Top Ten here.

yeah, i've got the one with cheek protection, doesn't change your vision or get in the way at all

I love Top Ten gear. Got some of their gloves, also purchased this exact head gear for sparring. Should be here tomorrow. From what i've heard it's basically what already has been said. Very easy to clean, perfect visibility, perfect protection, and because of the material it's gonna last forever.

top ten makes good gloves and headgear from the feedback i get from anyone i talked to about them but i haven't personally used any of their gear yet

Does the chin strap poke your throat? I know it seem slike a weird question, but it's distracting when the strap rubs against my adams apple.

No it doesn't. I have this same issue with Reyes and Grant headgear, they sort of choke you. But this one doesn't, the chin strap is right at the tip of your chin, right under your chin. With the mexican style headgear it's right at your throat and sort of chokes you if the headgear sits tight.

That's awesome. I may buy a pair to have in my bag for sparring days.

Is this bag safe? I read it's "indestructable Bayflex" but I wonder if it'll fold over time.

they dont sell the version with cheek protectors in a small anywhere right? because im afraid the medium wont fit. I think the OP has a 55cm head and said it wasnt too snug, and i think my head is only 53cm/21inches

You need to wear size small. I had the medium strapped all the way and still felt lose - especially around the cheeks.

I wouldn't try doing that. People in our gym attach the headgear to their bag. I always thought they do it because they can't fit the headgear in but i guess it's because they don't want the HG to get damaged over time. I do the same thing now. Now i got even more space inside my bag for other stuff. :icon_chee

The HG is pretty much indestructable when you have it on.

Dang, and they only make a medium for the cheek protector version, ill have to go with another headgear, thanks for the headsup though !

I went to the WKA nationals last month where Top Ten was the official sponsor and provider of gloves and head gear. I kept seeing matches getting stopped because the head gear was flying off. One of the guys from my gym got so annoyed after his came off 3 times so he just said screw the head gear and fought without it since his opponent agreed to do the same. Just my observation....
