So guys I got a pair of the Top King boxing gloves to try out the weekend just gone for my trip to Fairtex at Pattaya. It's my last day of training and the gloves are still going strong, but I am almost dead!

Anyway when I first got the gloves my initial impression was they are King just with the Top King slapped on them. However I've got the feeling that there are subtle differences in design and construction. I need to confirm this when I get back to the office on Tuesday and do a comparison of the gloves, so I will be adding a bit more to this.

The overall construction of the glove is very good. It is modeled on the newly designed King boxing glove, so it has a slightly longer cuff with the oz on and a full leather closure instead of the leather/elasticated closure on the previous gloves. I know some of you guys will not like the leather closure. I kind of had this in the back of my head too. However when I actually got the gloves on there is like some internal padding in the wrist area (never seen this before), which means when you close the gloves they feel very secure. However an immediate annoyance for me was the longer cuff which is rounded. It was digging into my forearm and I was just thinking this is not going to be good when it comes to clinching.

After trying the gloves on I went down to train. Did a little bit of stretching then straight into pad work. The initial annoyance of the longer cuff suddenly disappeared. I guess I wasn't thinking too clearly when I was trying the gloves on. The cuff only digs into your forearm when you bend your hand upwards and when you train you hardly ever do that. My next concern was is there going to be enough padding in the knuckle area for me able to punch properly without adding damage to my already messed up hands. The short answer was yes. They have got the balance just right. The foam is not too soft so it feels like you are boxing with pillows on nor too dense that you feel the impact of the shot down your whole arm.

Overall Top King boxing gloves are a well designed and constructed boxing glove. I feel comfortable wearing and using them myself. I want to get my hands on the air version next, because my hands were getting very hot wearing these ones.

done!!!!

How much has the padding improved as compared to the previous King gloves?

The thumb looks very straight. Did you jam it at all?

it did feel uncomfortable on saturday when i trained. however i think that is how i wrapped my hands that day. Sunday and Mondays training I haven't got any complaints.

im going to have to come back to you on this one. I am still at Fairtex at the moment. When I get back to the office I will get the King gloves out and do a proper comparison and post up some more photos.

^ no prob. yes please do give us a more detailed review since they do look nice but I hope they can be more compact like fairtex gloves and have a little more padding on the knuckles

are you going to rip open both the gloves to compare the padding?

I will be looking forward to some additional comments on the thumb and the padding as well. :)

Thanks for the review. I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of the new logo. Oh well.

From the pics and review, those seem like they are exactly like the newly designed Kings that I have, just with a different logo.

I too was worried about that cuff digging in my forearm but once you train you realise its not an issue. I've had my gloves for a month now with no complaints.

Only thing I can possibly say is they don't close your fist as much as I would like, so you have to make sure you properly clinch your fist when hitting pads or its going to hurt.

Oh and I'm not too big on how they printed the logo on. It almost looks like a sticker. The original Kings had a better printed logo, but I would say overall the newer design is better.

so guys ive took some pics of the top king and king gloves. i haven't got the newly designed king ones without the neoprene. However the neoprene photoed are exactly the same in construction apart from the neoprene.

the internal padding i talked about early is also in the King gloves. I've never noticed it before so I thought it was new in the Top King. However there are subtle difference between the gloves, which are pretty hard to tell from the photos.

The first difference is that the King gloves are longer in comparison than the Top King gloves, which means they come further up your forearm. It's only marginal though so nothing to really comment on there.

The second difference which is noticeable is the hand compartment is slightly bigger in the Top King gloves. I think this is a good thing because when you have wraps on it's easier to get your hand into the Top King gloves than the King gloves. However we should bear in mind that the King gloves photoed are brand new, so they haven't being broken in yet.

The last difference is the thumb positioning on the gloves. On the Top King ones it's quite straight whilst the King gloves it is more curved into the glove. Ergonomically the Top King ones need to be slightly angled in. However when I used the gloves I really didn't find this to be a problem.

Overall the Top King gloves are good. I don't think you would go wrong with getting either Top King or King. I think Top King might have the edge though, because I've got a feeling they are going to retail slightly cheaper than King.

Wow, that's some pretty sharp observations there. I was about to comment that they look like the same exact glove with a different logo. I must say, I too am not a fan of this new logo...

neither am i !! I really like the Kings logo and now that guy has gone off and not even bothered to come up with a new name :icon_lol:

I will buy kings with its cool logo and not "top kings"

yeah im not too keen on the logo too. however I understand why he has kept the name King incorporated in the name.

Actually just going by photos (disregaring the different logos) the finish on the original KING looks a lot better.

I have a pair of original king gloves that i have used for nearly two years and just bought a pair of the top king gloves and can safely say the finish, quality and feel of teh top kings is as good if not better. Sometimes pictures don't do things justice

OP already stated that is because the KING pair is brand new. Hasn't even been broken in.
