This isn't my list and while I don't consider most of these bands "heavy" there are still some good performances in this video. I know I'm going to sound old for saying this, but I miss the days when good Rock bands still had a place in pop music.

20. Queens of the Stone Age - Little Sister (2005)
19. Pearl Jam - Rearviewmirror (1994)
18. Faith No More - From Out of Nowhere (1990)
17. The Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock (1993)
16. Radiohead - The National Anthem (2000)
15. The White Stripes - Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground (2002)
14. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stone Cold Bush (1992)
13. Soundgarden - Pretty Noose (1996)
12. The Cranberries - Zombie (1995)
11. Nirvana - Rape Me (1993)
10. Pearl Jam - Porch (1992)
9. Skid Row - Piece of Me (1992)
8. Living Colour - Cult of Personality (1989)
7. Rollins Band - Starve (1997)
6. Skid Row - Monkey Business (1992)
5. Nirvana - Territorial Pissings (1992)
4. Faith No More - Epic (1990)
3. System of a Down - B.Y.O.B. (2005)
2. Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade (1996)
1. FEAR - Beef Baloney (1981)

ARent those mainly alternative rock bands? They certainly are not the Thrash Metal kind. Skid Row is probably the clsest to heavy metal in this list.

Pearl Jam played Not For You on SNL

It's definitely harder than Porch, and Rearviewmirror

Slipknot also performed on SNL and they are way heavier than anything on that list. Like I said in the OP this isn't my list I just thought it was a good mash-up. It hit me in the Nostalgia feels, so I thought I'd share it.

90s music was the best. My teenager was listening to a bunch of the new screamo crap so I started playing a lot of the good 90s stuff in the car. Eventually he ended up saying "Wow music used to be much better".

Yeah, no shit. I thought I remembered them playing on SNL once.

You just restored my faith in humanity's future.

That FEAR performance in 81 is legendary.

Also, FEAR started with "Beef Baloney" but then went into "New York is alright (if you like saxophone)".

Piece of Me should be at least #3...

What kind of screamo shit was it? I like some of the modern Deathcore and Metal core music.

Skid Row is the shit. I want to party with Sebastian Bach. Have you ever seen that reality show Super Group? It was on about 10 years ago. It was Sebastian Bach, Ted Nugent, Scott Iran (Anthrax) Evan Seinfeld (Biohazard) and Jason Bonhem.

They all lived in a house and had 10 weeks (I think) to record an album. All of the episodes are on YouTube. If you're board and have some spare time it's a good watch.

That FEAR performance in 81 is legendary.
"Belushi pushed to have the band booked on Saturday Night Live on Halloween, 1981. The resulting performance has become legendary for what happened, and what didn’t, and led to Fear becoming, says Ving, “one of the esteemed members of the permanently banned."
