It feels like Judo is unfortunately dying out from high level MMA, especially perhaps with the decline of JMMA. I mean if you look at these Rizin events, that literally looks like a regional event. So sad. It's not even close to Sengoku/Dream period, even compared to that.
Perhaps with ban in France going away, it will improve but....
with the end of 2020 near....and Judo disappearing away from Top MMA scenes mostly...here's my top 10 Judo fighters of all time
-----
*note: I guess looking at the list in hindsight, the only one who truly made to the very top out of high level Judoka is really only Fedor Emelianenko. Once Yoshida was quoted saying he wanted to have exhibition Judo match with Fedor, which Fedor respectfully declined saying he's not Judoka but Sambo fighter, but when you are Judo 4th degree black belt and third in Russia...prob Russian propaganda bs.
----
1. Yoshida - Judo Olympic Gold medalist
2. Fedor - Judo 4th degree black belt, third in Russia behind two Olympic/world silver/bronze medalists
3. Satoshii Ishii - Judo Olympian Gold medalist
4. Karo Parysian - competed for USA national team spot, made Judo cool in earlier UFC, almost fought Matt Hughes
5. Lombard - Cuban Olympian - Once looked a monster I guess before USADA
6. Aoki - 3rd degree Judo black belt - made pulling guard cool
7. Akiyama - Won Asian Championship as Japanese rep/Korean Rep
8. Dong Hyun Kim - 4th degree Judo black belt
9. Rick Hawn - USA Olympian
10. Daniel Kelley - Australian Olympian
Honorable Mention: Pawel Nastula - Olympic gold medalist but Got thrown to the wolves.
Yushin Okami - Judo black belt.
Kazuo Misaki - 3rd degree black belt.
Sanae Kikuta - beat Saulo Ribeiro in ADCC, won ADCC
Tsuyoshi Kosaka - 4th degree black belt - Got ragdolled by Fedor..
Kazuhiro Nakamura - Placed third in Japan
Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou - Won USA open. Arguablly the owner of the two greatest upsets in the history of MMA
Hayato Sakurai - Came in second in Bushido Tournament, Former pound of pound top fighter in the world. Judo Black belt(I think)
