In their primes. Who was the better tight end.

Gonzalez widely.
Sharpe paved the way but I think Tony did it better. Sharpe played with top tier talent and Tony played largely with bums.I lean towards sharpe prime for prime tbh
But Gonzalez is a better human being as far as we know and Sharpe is a fuckhead, jackass cause he can make Skip look smart sometimes somehow, and a loudmouth douchebag. For their careers, it's Tony by a wide margin. But Sharpe was way ahead of his peers in the 90's as a TE. Their primes (just primes here) are very similar statistically. Sure, Sharpe had Elway to start his career, but teams threw a lot more (and a lot more to TE's and short passes in general) during Gonzalez' prime the following decade. Plus Sharpe's best years were during Elways final years where he was a shell of himself. I give the prime vs. prime edge slightly to Sharpe, mostly because he had huge games in the yoffs (including with the '00 Ravens who had no offense and Trent Dilfer as QB) and Gonzalez really didn't.
This is probably all true. I've never watched his show with Bayless, but he is a massive douche. But Gonzalez is a better human being as far as we know and Sharpe is a fuckhead, jackass cause he can make Skip look smart sometimes somehow, and a loudmouth douchebag.
