Legendary documentary

This was actually removed from the internet for a long time.

Outside of fight pass, you couldn't find it anywhere for years.

Unfortunately, it never culminated in the destruction of Tito at the end of it. That would've legitimately broke the internet and Tito would've never lived it down.

But this rivalry is still an entertaining piece of MMA history.

“That's one of the big problems with boxing right now. It's all about these gimmicky-type fights. And that's just not what I do here. I put on fights with the best fighters in the world and fights that people want to see.” —Dana White

Ah, the good old days lol.

Most may not agree, but I think the MMA world in general has always had a fuck ton of bombastic certainty in how bona-fide the sport is. MMA fighters even today are still talking about going to boxing, almost dismissively even.

The similarities with pro wrasslin have always piggy backed off of that general sense of unearned bravado to the extent that even the UFC president tried to box a fighter from his own promotion at one time.
And that's nearly 20 years ago now, it's always had this kinda sideshow aspect trying to bubble up

Remember this special. LMFAO at Baldfather saying "There's no f'n way Tito beats me" in the intro, only to turn around and admit on his private plane (with his entourage) that there's the huge possibility that Tito knocks him the f out. Typical Zuffa hype job.

Tito backing out did nothing but help boost Dana’s ego. I really believe Dana thought he was a fighter after this.
Dana had boxed since he was a little kid

He came up in the Boston boxing scene which was known to be very tough, most quit before they got far.

Titos own words after he pulled out were, "you have to understand, Dana was almost a pro boxer"

His word lends a lot of credibility to the idea that Dana legitimately did train to be a fighter at one point and just decided he wasn't cut out for it.

I think that's a big reason why he's always done so well on TUF, he knows how to handle fighters, because he had that mentality at one point. Probably still does in some ways.

Beating up Tito wouldn't have proven anything, only embarrassed him in front of the world. Tito could never box.

Dana would have beaten him with the utmost ease.

It wouldn't even have been a match, if you have even a bit of boxing iq, it's easy to see to that Dana was worlds apart from Tito in boxing skill and experience.

Cliffs: tito had a sparring match with Dana written into his contract which he subsequently pussied out of
Basically a fight though

Dana had to actually show the commission footage of him sparring with a ranked boxer to prove he's legit enough for them to actually sanction it.

And not just some CEO about to meet their demise against a pro fighter.

Corrected for you.<lol>

It was totally ridiculous, but entertaining as hell.

Still the best thing for Dana that it never happened though. Otherwise the Vince comparisons would dog him for the rest of his life.
