Anybody else on here suffer from Tinnitus? It's a fairly-obscure condition, but I figured that there must be some of you guys on here.

I've had a mild form of it, in the form of white noise, for about 2 years now. It was very hard to live with, at first, but I found ways to ignore and overcome it, and now it has very little effect on my life.

no but I am actually involved in a project trying to make it easier for people with it.

Godspeed, mate. That's great work to be involved in.

Well lets see how it goes. We will try and make it less stressful for people with Tinnitus by using an algorithm and hardware that will alter sounds you hear to make it easier on you.

Got some, think most people do, the problem is when one doesn't ignore it.

I had it for several weeks. Awful time. I can't imagine having it permanently and never experiencing silence again.

When I had it I found wearing an earplug in the ringing ear helped muffle the sound. In fact that may be what caused it to eventually go away.

Yeah, it's a downer, not being able to enjoy silence. I just have to have some sort of sound or distraction going on to take my mind off it.

I hear that, a lot. I don't think a lot of people realise that hearing white noise, every now and then, is not the same as it being constant. It's difficult to explain to my friends, who don't have it.

That's awesome. I don't have it severe enough that I'll need something like that. Not yet, anyway, but I'm sure there are thousands who will benefit, greatly.

it can drive people insane.
Its really terrible .

I have it from working constru tion and not wearing ear plugs, i just ignore, but reading this thread has made pay attention to it, thanks TS

I can't even imagine.

I would probably go insane.

Anyone who can deal with this condition is a candidate for sainthood.

Thanks, for your kind words. I can only speak for myself, as this is is unique to every individual, but it got better. And I hope it gets better for everyone who suffers from it.

I can hear a constant ringing noise, a tone right near the top of the register. I'm not talking about a shhhh noise like white noise. I suspect most people have it but do not hear it, it's attention that causes it to kinda exist as it's really to do with loss of hearing rather than any gain of a continuous noise.

Yeah same. Took me a good half hour to ignore again and now it's back as a write this. Leaving this thread for ever.
