When you wear spats/tights do you wear shorts over them or wear them alone

I wear tights under my shorts, I usually just wear boxing trunks or shorter soccer shorts (always the soccer shorts when I lift) but I love wearing tights for running and boxing.

Spats by themselves.
Would wear shorts over for non-grappling applications though.

I wear them under my gi pants and shorts. I never wear a cup so I always cover them up.

Probably just spats themselves. Especially if rolling no-gi with someone who usually only trains gi. They grab anything loose that they can.

I was Reffing a teen division for a nogi tournament, as it was teen, boys and girls were in the same division. One of the boys was a gi grappler. I had to stop that match a lot.

Spats by themselves, and I don't wear a cup with them. Shorts over if it's for something else besides grappling.

For groundwork, I'll wear shorts over the spats. For standup, I'll wear just the spats.

Spats ALONE. Who wears clothes for no reason, purpose, or use over clothes, especially in training environment? Makes no sense. Illogical. - E

I wear compression shorts underneath my spats, nothing over the top.

I know in BJJ/grappling tournaments, groin cup is not allowed. But in practice, isn't it better to wear a cup underneath the spats if you are only wearing spats? The bulge will be too revealing.

I don't wear spats (can't afford 'em LOL), but if I did, I would wear nothing over them (but definitely briefs/speedo/compression shorts under them!) at any time. I like the Shootboxing look!

Spats over cup, then shorts over spats. Gonna make a slow transition to full spats one day though.

I'd go spats alone with these though. Too bad, they're not made for grappling.
