THOR: RAGNAROK Wins 2017 Comic-Con, Leads Social Media Buzz

tZrQl9M.jpg

Disney-Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok” dominated social media buzz with an impressive 264,000 new conversations last week, according to media-measurement firm ComScore and its PreAct service.

Marvel released a new full trailer featuring both Thor and Hulk at the Marvel showcase at San Diego Comic-Con on July 22. “Thor: Ragnarok” is scheduled for release on Nov. 3.

“Hunt for the Wilderpeople” helmer Taika Waititi directed the third standalone Thor movie, which seems to be quirkier and more offbeat than the first two, and is already drawing comparisons to “Guardians of the Galaxy.” “Ragnarok” stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleton, Idris Elba, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, and Anthony Hopkins.

Warner Bros. upcoming tentpole “Justice League” also performed impressively last week with 215,000 new conversations in the wake of the studio debuting a trailer and new posters with a cast panel at Comic-Con on July 22.

The 4-minute preview of the fifth film in the DC Comics Extended Universe focused mainly on Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Flash, but also introduced fans to the movie’s main villain, Steppenwolf. “Justice League” opens on Nov. 17.

Disney-Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” generated 90,000 new conversations following the unveiling of a new poster at the Marvel showcase at Comic-Con on July 22, which fans have recorded on their phones and leaked the footage. “Avengers: Infinity War” opens May 18.

Fox’s sequel “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” produced 84,000 new conversations after the studio released a new trailer and an animated short on July 20, and screened footage with a panel at Comic-Con on the same day. Halle Berry chugged a large glass of whiskey at the panel.

The action-comedy opens on Sept. 22. Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Jeff Bridges and Channing Tatum also star.

Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” generated 60,000 after Warner Bros. debuted its first trailer and Spielberg appeared with the cast at Comic-Con on July 22. The director did not discuss must about the plot but noted, “The Iron Giant is a real major player in this story.” “Ready Player One” opens on March 30.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Leads Social Media Buzz Thanks to Comic-Con

THOR: RAGNAROK Trailer is Marvel, Disney's Most Watched Ever in a Day

The trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, which was unleashed Monday by Disney, the parent company of Marvel, has garnered more than 136 million views in only 24 hours. It becomes the not only the most viewed Marvel trailer ever, but also the studio’s most viewed trailer ever across all its brands, which includes Disney’s live-action and animation divisions, Pixar, Star Wars, as well as Marvel.

The Beauty and the Beast trailer was the previous 24 hour record-holder for Disney with 127.6 million views. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was viewed 112 times in that time frame. Captain America: Civil War held the previous Marvel record with 94 million views.

The trailer was met with tremendous enthusiasm, with it channeling a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe with both music and sci-fi fantasy worlds as it set up a scenario where Thor, played a returning Chris Hemsworth, is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer. It offered glimpses of Hela, the movie’s powerful new villain played by Cate Blanchett. And it closed with a killer line as Thor, forced to fight in a gladiatorial arena, sees his Avengers comrade Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and bellows, “He’s a friend from work.” It’s a line he quickly rues saying.

The Fenris Wolf will appear in the movie.

In the comics, all the important mythical Norse creatures are there. Back in the 80s, my favorite Thor issue was when he fought Jormungand a.k.a. the Midgard Serpent. They really showed Jormungand's body encircling the Earth. The fight was so epic that they each panel was either a one page or two page blowup.

holy sh*t...Thanks Dragon...I cannot wait to see this. And now I gotta read that comic lol. Been on a HUGE norse mythology kick and read Neil Gaimon's book, it was pretty damn enjoyable.

Valkyrie is one of the worst castings ever. But that's what happens when you just throw random black people in rolls for attention.

Rest of the trailer looks awesome though. I don't know how I feel about the whole GOTG vibe. I'm depressed Mjolnir got killed :/ needs to be brought back by the end.

CB looks hella sexy and perfect for Hela.

I'm pumped.

Ps big thanks to @Dragonlordxxxxx making all these awesome threads and keeping us in the loop!

Marvel’s promise of a Thor vs. Hulk battle seems to have re-energized the Thor movie franchise.

The Ragnarok trailer doesn’t hold the most viewed overall record. The trailer for New Line’s adaptation of Stephen King's It was viewed 197 million times in the 24 hours after its March 29 release, while Fate of the Furious was eyeballed 139 million times.

Whoa legit surprised by this omg. Never would have expected this from a Thor movie.

That's a damn fine job in marketing.

What's even more impressive about the Thor: Ragnarok trailer breaking the Disney record is... it didn't even have a sneak peek or trailer teaser to let everybody know that a trailer was coming.

It really showed the trailer succeeded mostly on its strengths. It could even have surpassed 136 million views if they did a trailer teaser/sneak peek announcing that a trailer was coming.

The first Thor was meh. The second one sucked. I was excited for this new one months before this trailer hit.

As soon as it was announced that Hulk was gonna be in this movie,

She made me fall in love with her during the Aviator even with that strong Katherine Hepburn accent. Had a thing for her ever since.

He is the fucking God of Thunder, not sort of strong guy with hammer.

One of my favourite ever comic book moments is when Thor returns from the dead, finds out that Stark cloned him without his permission and has a complete sense of humour failure. He curb-stomp's Iron Man.

IM, "Damn that...you've been working out!"

Thor, "No. The difference is, in this time and this place, I am no longer holding back."

After frying Tony's armour with lightning, he pics him up by the neck, tears off his mask and tells him,

"Make your threats to those too cowardly to fight. Not to me. Or learn again the difference between a God of Thunder...and a man in a metal suit".

I'm repulsed by the forcing of the comedic tone. Thor lost his hammer, got thrown into a gladiator pit against an uncontrolable rage monster that is Hulk and all he can do is go "haha! I know him from work!" I just can't. I'm done.

Because he is captured and forced to fight in an arena but he just saw his uberpowered homie that can potentially team up and get him out of there

He went from death sentence to possible freedom. He should be excited as fuck

Thank you.

I don't know why you should have to spell it out. Isn't what you said obvious???
