I been to rehab, i done all that, i read NA and AA from cover to cover, said this for 21 days. But I still hit the source. This to me, means nothing. But Im sure a few of you will get something out of it.

It seves a few purposes.

One, don't worry about things you have no control over. Got a cancer biopsy reading in 3 days and youre worried? What can you do but wait?

Also it's a reminder to take your hands off the wheel and don't try to control everything. Controlling everything your way got you into AA (in this example), and it's better to focus on what's important.

It's simple but effective.

I was intensive inpatient rehab for 10 months. Said this prayer at minimum 3 times a day, sometimes up to 7. I’ve read the AA big book around 4 times. As punishment I had to write it cover to cover, took me over a week doing it 8 hours a day.

I mean the prayer pretty self explanatory don’t you think?

God give me the serenity to accept the crap posted in the berry

Give me the courage to block the crap that I can

Give me the wisdom to know the difference

Eh, in my experience NA and AA are weak, you need Jesus in your life if you want real change, IMO.

God responds to all who cry out for help, but if you ask for Jesus' help you'll get way more out of it than any other way.

The end of the Serenity Prayer.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Why are you saying prayers then? It's because you need help isn't it? Wouldn't hurt to pray to Jesus if you really want that help.

in the past, maybe.

currently, for shits and giggles.

“Sipping Whiskey,” Homie.

About all my body will allow me to afford.

i could be wrong but i think you're supposed to reflect on the meaning of the prayer, not just repeat it, like a parrot :D It's probably not some abracadabra magic sentence that will bring a genie to you or make everything alright.

Anyway, i'm an atheist and i've always liked the serenity prayer. Seems to me quite profound, excellent stoic advice and a recipe for how to live your life with clarity, rather than escapism.
