The problem with women in the UFC

Let's be honest... this is all about the money a Cyborg/Rousey fight would bring. It's the only WMMA fight anybody wants to see. It's the same appeal the Carano/Cyborg fight had... Beauty vs Beast.

If Rousey loses her first fight the UFC will shut down the division. Guys will pay to watch Hot chicks fight, thats about it.

The problem is that apart from Rousey, Cyborg and one or two others, the rest are average fighters.

Carmouche is supposed to be a title contender, but by all accounts, has struggled to get past 7-8 or 7-7 opposition recently. Average fighter, being promoted as a top contender due to a thin division - exactly why I didn't want WMMA in the first place.

Remember when Cody McKenzie fought Chad Mendes? Everyone hated that. Now imagine McKenzie had got a title shot instead....

No such thing as bad publicity.

However, since WMMA really began with just Carano and Cyborg, it's almost tripled in name fighters like Rousey, Tate, Fugii, Herrig, and Coenen.

Gotta start somewhere!

well it may have more fighters now, but it's still not enough to make a worthwhile division, in my opinion.

also, are all these women going to fight in the same weightclass? do they all weigh the same?

i mean i hope it works out for them. i just don't see it ending well.

I agree it's a desperation move, but it's got nothing to do with the UFC's popularity, and everything to do with getting into Rousey's pants.

haha...you have a point, there.

In addition to depth of talent, I think there is a more glaring problem.

As a society we aren't conditioned to watching women get injured and the crap beat out of them. This will prevent the advancement of all womens combat sports.

I honestly dont think that's currently as big an issue as lack of depth in the division. While I personally agree with your statement in certain respects I dont think that this is an objective or universal truth.
