Yea Im pretty sure that joke offended the writer at Grantland something awful cause he seemed pretty pissed at the whole situation
I thought it was funny myself
lol it shouldn't have. Fozzy clarified "not wrong...just wrong for me."
I did watch. Here's my brief thought.
There's something jarring (I don't want to say offputting because that's really not how I felt, but definitely jarring) about seeing the Muppet characters in something that is definitely more edgy than anything they've previously been in.
Even going back to the much earlier stuff like The Great Muppet Caper and The Muppets Take Manhattan, there were some wry jokes that adults would appreciate more than kids.
But in this show, you have multiple sexual references (Kermit's euphemism for how he and marketing chick got together, Rizzo's comment about "this is where the magic happens,"), aggression, and just an overall more adult vibe. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, it's an interesting take. I just think it will take some getting used to.
With that out of the way, i could say I definitely did enjoy it. Fozzy and Statler and Waldorf had the funniest stuff in my opinion, but Scooter was great too ("I've worked with Kermit so long that when he just gives me a look, I know what to do...immediately ask him what that look meant."- might have been my favorite line). Gonzo was my favorite muppet as a kid- I just hope he doesn't get relegated to more of a supporting role.
