People always mention how close the fight was ( even though Jones came close to finishing Gus in the 4th), but they never talk about the main reason for Jones' decreased mobility in that fight.

This was Jones' toe 5 months before the first fight with Gus:

To show you the impact that an injury like this has, Jones still fights with it taped up to this day ( had it taped in both the Gus 2 fight and the Smith fight last night).

Your ability to balance your body when you walk comes from your big toes. Have any of you ever tried to come back from an injury that destroys your entire sense of balance?

Jones was fortunate enough to be walking normally 5 months after this injury, let alone fighting. The fact that he never even mentioned it after the fight shows you the kind of warrior that he is. The fact that he had one working toe and still almost finished Gus in the 4th tells you even more about his heart.

We all know what happened the 2nd time around with 2 working big toes....

Jones showed he was clearly better in the rematch when he showed up prepared.

Jones himself repeatedly said he didn't respect Gus enough, don't think he has much reason to defend a win with a false excuse if he could just say his toe was still giving him trouble but don't recall hkm mentioning it.

Not only he came with an injured toe but he didn't train for that fight and yet beat Gustafsson.

What happened in a rematch when Jon Jones took him seriously by training hard and was 100% healthy? He absolutely dominated him to the point Gustafsson was barely able to touch him. Jon Jones looked like a stealth fighter and finished the fight with a TKO.

I dont buy that and all the BS that he didnt train and all that.

He came in well conditioned and infact thats what won him the fight.

Jon, like everyone else took Gus lightly.

Jons boxing aint great. Gus took advantage of that.

Haha, I shot a nail right through my big toe nail and out the other side (had to get my boss to pull it out with a nail bar cause my foot was nailed to the floor) at work the other day and that was enough to seriously affect my mobility for the rest of the day and still hurts pretty bad.

I can only imagine how much worse it must be when the thing is almost completely detached!!

The only thing that gets over looked is that he was on steroids for both fights.

Yeah they do.

The main reason is it's the first time he fought an challenger who had range and height that could trouble him.

People should start targeting that toe with foot stomps.

It's like we're watching TS learn past MMA in front of us.

It’s just for protection, no excuses
