This series 'The Day...' is about 'extraordinary' moments in NHB/Vale Tudo history.

Rei Zulu was challengin´ the whole Brazil at that time, even went to Curitiba in the South (which had historically no real Vale Tudo scene, unlike Porto Alegre for instance with Master Tatu & George Gracie...).
Rei Zulu said: "Here, nobody´s got the balls to fight with me!"
Rei Zulu was a LHW then, while Rudimar was a LW [154 lbs].
Rudimar´s recallin´here that he was kindah 'pressured' to answer the 'challenge', which finally turned out to be some kind of sparrin´session (with a non-verbal agreement: no ground game since Rudimar was 1st & foremost a MT fighter).
And even Zulu reckoned that the lil dude held his own...
Now...the historical relevance of this meeting relies on the fact that it was Rudimar´s very 1st contact with the Vale Tudo world.
He then helped Zulu to promote his fights on the local scene.
Meanwhile, this 'challenge' also projected Rudimar´s name on the local scene...
Now, think about it:
Zulu was:
1/ Hickson´s 1st Vale Tudo fight.
2/ ATG Euclides Pereira´s last fight
3/ ... & Rudimar´s introduction to the Vale Tudo scene.
Looks like the Alpha and Omega of that scene, right?
Rei Zulu´s background is Tarraca (capoeira too), a native Brazilian wrasslin´, basically body lock>slam.
He was always clownin´, part of his [carry] job, more or less...
Rei Zulu was 1st & foremost a showman.

Jus´b4 Hickson, in 1979 Rei Zulu fought against Euclydes Pereira, who would always take pride in sayin´that he beat him a lil b4 Hickson did it, and that that was one of his HL (Rei Zulu was dominatin´the fight but got caught in a guillotine.)
