This series 'The Day...' is about 'extraordinary' moments in NHB/Vale Tudo history.

Today: [Brazilian Vale Tudo Scene]

Was in March 16th, 1940

Yano e George Gracie.png

According to the newspaper [1940], they did choke themselves out...
George woke up 1st, stood up...

Seems the ref didnt know what to do, tried to declare George the winner, but George refused since it could be seen as a controversial victory...

Tbh, scoring Hendo´s early fights is pure headache...Against Ronin, Nog etc...

Biggest Hendo fan here, he did have some controversial decisions that should have gone the other way. From what I remember he beat Nog because they favored the smaller guy in RINGS when it came to a decision.

I'm a purple belt the Takeo Yano lineage. The only BJJ lineage that doesn't go back to Kano.

Takeo Yano--> Francisco Sa--> Francisco Pinto Sa--> Diego Ramos--> Me

Nog vs Hendo:

Hendo was a LHW in this fight [198 lbs], while Nog was a HW [230 lbs].

As always, tough Hendo fight to score...
At the end of the regular time [2nd Rd], the judges had it a Draw [x3].
Hendo was declared winner at the end of the 3rd Rd, but one could say that Nog was arguably winning by
the end of the 2nd Rd
:
> 1st Rd:
Nog connected with 1 punch, Hendo had a few decent knees to the body.
Nog got the TDs, but got reversed. Nog even got the full mount (actually got 1 in each round),
but didnt transition to anything threatening...
> 2nd Rd:
Nog again got the TDs, Hendo threatened twice with [not so tight] guillotines.
Then Nog got the full mount, transitioned to a [decent] armbar but had his legs in the wrong position to secure it.
> 3rd Rd:
Both connected with punches, Hendo with a cleaner uppercut.
Then Nog got the full mount, but didnt create anything much out of it...

Awesome!

The more the Gracies prove themselves generally to be douchebags, *cough* RALPH *cough*, the prouder I am to be of a non-Gracie lineage.

Thanks for the reminder cliffs. I remember it being just like that, watched it on super grainy tape. The fact that hendo was smaller was what was so impressive to me at the time. That, and the fact the man was a novice on the ground at that time in his career.

Indeed, was a Quality 'win/loss' for Hendo, not everyone could hang with Big Nog in Rings...
