Well technically it is but All UFC contracts are 5 years Maximum (most likely because of legal challenges) so all Francis has to do is sit out the rest of the year and he is free of his contract. Y'all are supposed to be the informed fans and 90% don't know this shit, makes me wanna <{cuts}>

The UFC should let him have that one boxing match against Fury

If Conor was allowed too then Francis should as well, the UFC will make a bit of money from it

Imagine if he leaves the ufc and gets paid 10 million, what a bad look for the company, shows how disgraceful they are.

Wrong lol it's 5 years from when they decide to freeze it

so 5 years from now

Don't you remember the Couture thing

No this is a new development from the ufc to avoid the incoming class action lawsuit.

They may eventually come to terms that he can wait and do it whether they like it or not and choose to have a piece of the action rather than not profit from it.

But expect them to be complete bullies until then, pressure him, drag his name thru the mud and try to flex their lawyers on him first.

The PR if he goes to boxing isn't worth it.

He has wanted to box all these years and trains mostly boxing with Dewey Cooper in LV and was on the receiving end in sparring from both Carlos Takam and Joe Joyce. He knows if he goes in now he loses. His team knows it too.

The UFC won't let their baddest man ever best fighter go get walloped in boxing it looks too bad.

The 5 year clock would start from his first fight of the contract, which was January 20, 2018. So the clock would be up on Jan 20, 2023. With the Champions Clause, its a 1 year extension, so the clock would be up Jan 22, 2023. So either way, whether we're using the 5 year rule or the Champ clause, he would need to sit out a full year before his contract his up. Doesn't seem like the smartest strategy to maximize earnings at 35 years old.

Yes and if you've been paying attention Francis said he isn't fighting for 600,000 anymore and is willing to wait a year. He's literally said that verbatim in interviews

The contract extension does not effect the 5 year rule all ufc contracts are five years MAX they cannot be extended longer than that this is because of ufc fears of upcoming legal challenges.

If the UFC was wise, they'd start rebuilding the relationship and work out a deal with him. Hopefully he can fight two more times this year to tie the all time defense record, but if not it is what it is. The UFC created this mess.

This is true from what ive read. He can just wait till the end of the year and train for an early 2023 event. He should fight Hafthor Bjornsson.

Yeah if thats the price they should probably pay it, it allows them to keep Francis happy without really upsetting their pay structure and you can have some mights in the meantime to hype up someone else to challenge him.
