Anyone have further info? Is this story legit? Newsweek is reporting so odds are it is but am skeptical, because the Asiatic elephants don't generally have tusks, but some do.

This is why you should never do anything elephant related in Thailand unless you know for a fact it is a sanctuary that rescues abused elephants. Scumbags keep doing this for that tourist money.

Didn’t know elephants were used as beasts of burden. Seems like a terrible idea.

Yup. There are these places that take tourists on elephant rides. A lot of people just think oh it's just like horse rides, and don't realize that many of these places keep the animals in small enclosures. Elephants shouldn't be in capitivity and should be allowed to form family groups.

Elephants are kinda dicks especially the males. I don't think the heat made it go crazy. It's 89 degrees. That is pretty normal for Thailand

Went to a kid's birthday party in India years ago.

They rented an elephant and let kids ride it. I didn't let my kid near it.

The handler used a fireplace poker to "direct" the elephant.

One parent and their preschooler hopped on the elephant and the handler have it a slight whack to get it to start walking down the block.

The elephant had had enough. It pulled up a small tree and tossed it in the road. It then knocked over a gate.

I took my kid and left

Several years ago me and sibling's family were vacationing on the Riviera Maya. There are many tour companies that operate out of the resorts that sell you packages to various excursions and parks. The nephew and niece wanted to visist one that had dolphins which were kept in a sort of lagoon. I was pretty adamant that we should not , as there is a lot of abuse in that entertainment, with the animals being cooped up and forced to perform.

LEAVE THE FUCKING ELEPHANTS ALONE
