The whole "Terry Garvin School of Self Defense" was a rib on Garvin (no relation to Ronnie, Jimmy or the other Terry). Monsoon used to say, "_______ is a graduate of the Terry Garvin School of Self Defense," every time a jobber did a go-behind or a rear chinlock. Eventually Heenan and Lord Alfred Hayes got into the act.
Bobby Heenan: "I've seen him break in a lot of young talent."
Lord Alfred Hayes: "I've seen him breaking in some young talent in Europe as well."
Vince McMahon: "Who's Terry Garvin?"
A lot of the talk centered around Steve Lombardi, later the Brooklyn Brawler. As Monsoon said, he was "the only graduate from the Pat Patterson and Terry Garvin School Of Self Defense." Bobby Heenan once said that Lombardi passed all the tests. "Written and oral."
