Both are GOATS as Directors. Who is better at capitalizing on choosing/using music to heighten scenes?

Tarantino easily. To me Tarantino is best known for his dialogue & film score. Scorcese is good but Tarantino uses spaghetti westerns scores so he gets my vote.

Tough call. Scorsese is more prolific, but Stuck In The Middle is the best individual use between the two imo

Overall, Tarantino. Although the soundtracks for both Goodfellas and Casino are about as perfect as it gets, and really gives those movies an identity. Don't know about you, but whenever I hear "House of The Rising Sun", my mind immediately goes to Casino.

Tarantino is masterful at his use of the music.

That weird Neu! song is only used in Kill Bill 1 movie for 2 seconds and god knows what drove him to use it where he did, but it's fucking incredible.

I'm not a Tarantino guy but the way he used music in Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown was chefs kiss perfection and added so much to those films

Scorsese uses era appropriate songs in his mafia movies

Scorsese.

Tarantino has the flair. No doubt the music choices are generally more bold and has impact. Though sometimes a bit too much for a scene that it takes me out of the movie somewhat. Martin makes the music work for the scene itself, and it actually draws me into the scene rather than away.

They’re both pretty close with it. It’s a tough call for me here as I’m a huge fan of films and shows that know how to blend them together.

To me it’s a tie. ‘Goodfellas’ is probably Marty’s best music scored film while for me ‘Jackie Brown’ is QT’s best.

Tho.. Marty is more subtle with his use while QT uses his more as a vehicle in some of his films.

If this thread is only based off of musical sequences,

Then it goes to The Foot Man. He at least has something new every film.

Scoresese just replays the same soundtrack over and over again, just in a different order each film.

I’d still love to see Marty direct a QT script btw

I don't think either are the pinnacle of choosing music or a score for their movies. I guess Scorsese for using original music more

Tarantino uses his movies as a radio show. Not a bad thing but scoring a movie beautifully resonates more than a compilation

It depends on the movie.

Tarantino's movies got a style that welcomes the way he uses the music.

I wouldnt want it any other way with his films. Scoring those the normal way wouldnt work.

Agreed. Like I said -he uses it as a vehicle to drive his storytelling and create an atmosphere.

Both overrated but would go with Tarantino overall but Scorsese if I had to pick just one of their films. Goodfellas is the film that should be showed as the perfect example of form meets function.

I'm listening to K-Billy's Super Sounds of the 70s right now.

Tarantino is not a very director but a very good writer and does in casting. So many actors bail out his bad directing.

yeah I agree, I just don't think it takes as much talent to do that, just good taste in music
