Cauliflower ear is seen everywhere in the martial arts community. Grapplers, boxers, and MMA fighters are probably the biggest culprits when it comes to having it. The more trauma the ear receives, the more of a chance you will have to get Cauliflower ear. So what is it, how do you get it, how do you prevent it, and how can you get rid of it? Most of know what it is and have seen people with it, but I realized a lot of my teammates are missing an important step to making sure it doesn

Thank you very much for this post.
I currently have tightness in my left ear but with rubbing with ice and constant massage it has loosened up and return to normal.

I read that massaging and ice helps circulates the blood thus force the tissue to start to repair. I definitely am grateful that the condition improved and hope remains better from now. Thanks navita for the useful info.

I dont wear headgear, so far no cauliflower ear, but if/when I do get it I wont mind too much about how my ear looks.

you should note that you want to go to the ent (ear nose throat) specialist if you go to the doctor to get it taken care of.

my ears are made of steel.

No seriously, I am lucky I have ears that won't show the slightest sign of going cauli and they are never really even made to be that sore..they have been bashed around plenty, but no issue.

Seems some don't get them...Fedor is a good example.

Really guys, DO NOT go to an ENT. It will be costly, It will leave scars, it will hurt like shit, and you will be off the mats for a few weeks.

Step 1: Swab with alcohol after you get out of the shower

Step 2: Insert needle

step 3: Draw out fluid

Step 4: Keep pressure on the ear for roughly 15 minutes

Step 5: apply ear guards during rolls until healed

Repeat nightly untill ear is healed.

This is absoloutley the best method.
