He actually did well striking with Volkov in the second, and he's coming off of the TKO win over JDS.
If he'd tried to strike more instead of focusing on wrestling, he might not have gassed so badly, and would've been a more impressive win in the end.
Not that it matters though, after criticizing Dana about pay and losing to Ngannou twice, he was very unlikely to ever get a title shot under the best case scenario.

He was looking legitimately great in the first two rounds, but what happened afterward is not championship-caliber by any stretch. I seriously did not expect him to gas so severely and so fast. What could have been a strong addition to his current streak of dominance -- going back to his roots of wrestle-fucking guys and busting them up on the ground following his TKO of JDS on the feet -- instead showed some serious holes he needs to work on if he ever hopes to sniff a title shot. About the best one can hope for is that Curtis and his camp use this as a learning experience because that shit was uncharacteristically bad.

He should’ve boxed Volkov up a little more. You can’t shoot for 26 takedowns and not get tired. Just bad execution from a guy who typically shows pretty good fight IQ. He’s lucky he got the win.
