Movies James Gunn's SUPERMAN (Logo Revealed, post #596)

Please bring back the damn red trunks. The onesee is played out. Trunks works. Brandon Routh rocked them and he looked great...(no homo) We don't need fake muscles and space material. Keep it simple. Keep it bright. Keep it classic.

SUPERMAN: LEGACY Adds Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher

superman-skyler-sara.png

Superman: Legacy is rounding out its call sheet with Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacherr.

They will join the previously announced cast of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Clark Kent and Lois Lane, as well as Nicholas Hoult as the Man of Steel’s arch nemesis Lex Luthor.

Gisondo, best known for HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza, will play the cub photographer at The Daily Planet who works with Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Jack Larson first played Jimmy Olsen in the 1950s TV show Adventures of Superman, while Marc McClure and Sam Huntington inhabited the role in future adaptations.

Sampaio, a Portuguese model, is portraying the assistant-turned-love interest of Lex Luthor. This role has been previously brought to life by Valerie Perrine in the Christopher Reeve films and Andrea Brooks on The CW’s series Supergirl.

James Gunn is directing Superman: Legacy, which will mark the first feature film under the newly relaunched DC Studios. After a string of DC flops, including The Flash and Shazam: Fury of the Gods, Gunn and fellow co-chief Peter Safran plan to reconfigure the comic book’s film and television projects. Before Legacy can take the universe in a fresh direction, the Jason Momoa-led sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits theaters on Dec. 22.

Though exact details for Superman: Legacy have remained under wraps, Safran has teased the story “focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”

Despite the delay from the writers and actors strike, Superman: Legacy is still set to make its original release date of July 11, 2025. With production able to resume, the director has been lining up his cast and recently confirmed on social media the additions of María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.

Well, he looks like a Jimmy Olsen, at least.

Trucks have always been stupid.

Besides being the iconic classic look of superman and a ode to the musclemen of yesterday. The red trunks balance the overall color scheme of the suit. Gunn himself made a poll about this most important of issues and almost a half a million people who care, responded.

The trunks need to come back. As do the bright colors!

Trunks have always been stupid, regardless if they're on Super-Man, Wolverine, Doug Funny, or a crystal meth addict.

If a hero has trunks on, it means its a story for children.

The 'onsey' in Man Of Steel signified that version of Superman wanted to be taken more seriously, and not a childish fantasy.

And fans could have seen Brandon Routh's trunks in Lois & Clark, but it was only canceled after 2 seasons.

The "edgy" grim take on Superman sucked balls. Nobody watched that Superman which is why we are rebooting the entire universe now.

Superman at his core is about hope and justice as a grown boy scout rescued kittens from trees or stopped alien gods from tearing the planet apart. Using darker blues and burgundy's instead of bright/bold colors doesn't imbue "hero". And the trunks are a part of that brightness and bold color scheme of Superman. Always has been. His look is iconic and unique. It was only recently we've tried the no trunks look and it sucks.

That's what Donner's Superman was and why it worked. It knew at its core what it was and who it's audience is.

Yeah I do tend to think Supes has never been that suited to grimdark edgelord cinema, even when he's fighting badguys along those lines its the contrast to his americana image is what makes it work.

Agreed. It can work perfectly for Batman. Not Superman. He's suppose to be bright and bold and campy.

The real tragedy of Snyder's Superman is that it was perfectly cast, just wrongfully directed and written. Cavil makes the perfect Superman.

There are a lot of things I disagree with about Snyder’s approach to film making.

But if there is one thing I will concede to his fanboys, is that the man excels at casting.

Not perfect, mind you. But really fucking good for the most part.
