Aldo (Haggerty) rushed in aggressively, going for the KO right away, but McGregor (Superlek) timed and placed a counter perfectly for the quick KO of Aldo (Haggerty) in the first minute of the fight. Two champs (Aldo/McGregor - Superlek/Haggerty} at the top of their game, you are expecting a war, then in the first minute one guy rushes in defense be damned, and gets KO-ed by a counterstrike.

Here's the full fight, plus several replays of the KO from different angles, on Youtube. Not sure how long it will stay up. It's interrupted by a couple of commercials for some stupid reason, so you'll miss about 14 seconds of the fight, but not the important seconds.

Conor is the best pull counter puncher we've seen in MMA. Aldo didn't realize this at the time and fell right into Conor's best weapon. Strangely, Eddie failed to take notice and fell for the same trap.

Superlek-Haggerty wasn't the same, though. And for those wondering:

The only difference is that the Muay Thai ref didn't rush in and knock out Haggerty a second time, unlike Big John

True, it didn't happen exactly the same way....all I meant was that it had enough similarities to remind me of the Aldo/McGregor fight.

The cunt BJM likely did that deliberately. It's unlikely someone has such a lack of spatial awareness when Aldo's body didn't move and BJM ran from 10 yards away.

With a normal ref you would give benefit of the doubt but this guy always used to randomly attack fighters with overly aggressive stoppages - Brian Johnson was just the most notable example.

He calmed down later in his career, but I think he was channelling his inner psycho on this one.

Oooooohhhh wow what an elbow that was!
I have never seen Haggerty put away like that before.

I think O'Malley is better at throwing counters on his back foot.

Conor's pull counter against Buchinger will forever be one of my favorite MMA knockouts of all time. Picture perfect.

Haggerty is super aggresive as it is, but this is nothing like Conor/Aldo

Dude just wanted to talk about a thai fight with more people and needed an excuse to connect it to the ufc in order to post the thread in the heavies
