A new one is 600 bucks (500, plus 100 for shipping). My friend uses one, and he's probably the best guy at grappling that I roll with. If I bought one, I would drill my moves every single day.

I want a tool to get better at Bjj without having to rely on workout partners with opposite schedules. (I do enough of that all week just to get sparring, rolling, and pad work). I started hitting the heavy bag by myself at my gym every day for the last few months, and I have noticed a BIG improvement in my striking. I want to do the same for my Bjj.

I don't like grappling dummies personally

but the one you have mentioned, I did a quick youtube search and it looks miles better then the standard ones people have

don't waste your money just buy this

I'm guessing you're a Gracie University member?

IMO it's not worth it the money.

Im getting one, and i dont give a **** what people say. Anything is better than working knee on belly to arm bar with a BOsu Ball, lol. Seriously, every BJJ Black belt i meet says "drill, drill, drill". When I can't get a person to meet me (which is quite frequent) on my off days, I want to be able to get the muscle memory down. It can't hurt. And $500 is not a big deal if you really are doing BJJ daily.

why not use a inflatable doll? well maybe not a sex doll unless you're rock hard..

It sounds like the OP is motivated. I'd say go for it.

Ps: read some of the reviews first: that particular dummy is meant to be pretty wide shouldered and difficult until broken in

If you want to fight grappling dummies then I suggest you train with a grappling dummy.

If you want a grappling dummy, I suggest just making one. I made a pretty decent one for ~$60, and I'm not an engineer or anything.

All you really need is:
- Industrial Aluminum Wire (For the frame, I think I used 1" inch thick.)
- Plastic piping that is proportional to the limbs you need (Placing this will make it so that you can only bend certain areas like joints and other places won't bend, such as your elbow [where there would be no pipe] versus your forearm [where the pipe would be].)
- Pool Noodles (This is for softness on the limbs)
- Old Pillows or clothing to thicken up the midsection / build the head

And boom, you're finished.

There are multiple guides online too, pretty simple stuff.

Ive tried some grappling dummies. They are all very stiff and its hard to get that thing into normal positions. The obe i used was like grappling a very rigid giant. The material was rough. It actually sucked and i wondered why anyone would spend their money on that thing.

I have one that I train with. Its awesome for drilling movements or new techniques from instructionals, but nothing like a real person. I see it more as a workout tool than a learning one.

A grappling dummy is useless. Its a toy used for kids to punch or wrestlers to throw.

It would be like wanting to learn how to drive, then buying a toy truck for practice.

I'll go against the grain here. I have the proman grappling dummy (very similar).

It is, hands down, the best thing I have ever done for my grappling game. I wake up early every morning and drill one move for 30 minutes straight. It is making me a better grappler.

For example, I drilled footlocks a couple weeks ago. When I went to our no-gi class, I got 3 people in a footlock. I didn't go to class with that intention. The moves just "appear" in class when I roll.

Also, I was looking on youtube and found a real cool gi choke a couple months ago. I have hit this choke on brown, purple, and blue belts at least a dozen times. I drilled it for 30 minutes.

It works. The hardest part of jiu jitsu is getting what you know to show up on the mat. Drilling with the dummy does that for me.

In one year, I will drill 365 x 30 minutes per day. There is no way that doesn't help your game.

Few things to consider here
The dummy occupies a lot of space and you will have to invest in buying mats too and a3/a4 sized gi.
The submission master dummy is also available at pro grappling equipment for a less price.
The dummy is heavy and think as if you are grappling with someone who is 200+ lbs so it's very difficult to move the dummy around if you are light weight.
For example i thought i would drill butterfly guard sweeps but it's just impossible for me to keep resetting the dummy after every repetition since i am a light weight.
It felt like a 150lbs person lifting at 220 lbs person.
Some of the techniques that you can drill with the dummy are x pass, side control submissions, mount submissions, leg locks, rolling back takes.

I had to eventually sell mine to a friend because it was way too heavy for me and it occupied a lot of my apartment space.

Positives of grappling dummy are-
you can drill that extra 30 minutes every day and save travel time. Not every time a drilling partner is available.

Also if you keep drilling x pass or foot locks for 10,000 times i don't see why it's a useless thing.

Also if you can afford that $$$ for the dummy, mats and the gi, go for it.

Yeah. I like the idea of the CXT one a bit better, since it's just a very specialized Swiss ball. But I'm not paying $170 for a Swiss ball

If it is too heavy, you can remove some of the stuffing. Blue man grappling dummies will sell you the shell that you can stuff yourself.

Can't you just use the 600 bucks to pay some poor kid to let you do armlock him constantly? Post a "Help wanted for part-time job. X hour per week at negotiable time. Pay: Y dollars per hour. People with strong arms preferable." and see if you get something.
