Stipe looked terrible against Francis

Stipe would have got KOed earlier if it wasn't for spending 3 years fighting the same old man

The loser of the fight looked out of sorts and it seems to never have anything to do with the opponent...........

he accepted getting punched didn t even counter like the first time and didn t even mixed up the takedowns it was pretty mutch the same as Blaydes vs Derrick not to mention he bullrushed chin first to a huge counter

Gane will not make such mistakes

Stipe looked old and shot.

It was sad to see. Those wars with DC really took their toll on him.

Still the UFC HW GOAT. Respect to the ex champ.

I actually thought he was injured or something. Didn't look good at all.

Exactly. Stipe’s decline showed itself throughout the Cormier trilogy (as did Cormier’s), and that just continued in the 2nd Ngannou fight. While I think Ngannou made some improvements in his game, Stipe lost mainly because of his own decline.

He's like 40, and had only fought another guy older than him for like 3 years. You can be a little smaller than your opponent if it gives you the speed advantage, but if you give up a ton of size AND you're getting slower at age 40, there goes winning the striking with speed and the size difference was too much to wrestle effectively either.

Francis made him look that way. It's not like Stipe didn't try to mix in the wrestling. You saw what happened when he did....

Francis looked great and improved. But I agree with OP to an extent: Stipe's gameplan looked horrible, or just wasn't working. And he didn't mix up the wrestling well/often, it just looked bad when he did. Props to Francis for stuffing the "advantage" Stipe had, but as a Stipe fan, I remember watching it live and thinking Stipe looked bad the entire time up to his KO.

Now do I think that Gane will fair better: I assume so on the feet, but if he gets rocked (LOL and not outright KOd by Francis), it will be interesting to see how he rebounds and how/if he has any other gameplan.

Whoever wins, I just want an exciting fight, hopefully late into or past the first round please!

As a Stipe fan the whole "getting significantly smaller to get faster" just didn't seem like a good idea to me. Even in grappling, that makes trying to move, take and hold the bigger guy down more difficult. And in striking, you're eating bombs while throwing peanuts.

He held up the division for years and now is complaining that people have forgotten about him

I think that's got more to do with Dana letting his mate Derrick Lewis have 2 title fights despite there being much better fighters available who weren't as funny.

Yeah lighter and faster wasnt good strategy cause francis is plenty fast. He thought he could gas him out but even in their first fight when francis was bone tired he made it to the last round. I just dont think stipe can beat him at this point.
