Steven Seagal training Lyoto Machida

I have seen this posted on a couple sites, and the replies are always predictable. The hate is strong.

My perspective: Anderson and Lyoto obviously find some value in working with Seagal. It is puzzling that so many are completely dismissive, when 2 world class fighters are not. The theories I have read on the reasons they are with him, borders foil beanie land.

Aikidoka have really good tai and ashi sabaki, it is worth picking some of it up IMO. Some of them strongly believe in using copious amounts of atemi too; which I can find no fault with either.

He was a legit Aikidoka, meaning he learned through legit means, trained and taught tradiitonally. But like most Aikidoka, probably couldn't fight his way out of wet paper back when it comes to MMA. Kick and chain strikes?? Did he learn that in Aikido?

I personally think it's him trying to still find some connection to the rest of the martial arts world in his dying popularity. What he's teaching isn't anything profound...nor do I feel it's going to up the game of either Anderson or Lyoto.

Either that or maybe its a way to politic with Seagal since lets face it he knows the hollywood people and the righters days of fighting in the cage are numbered so who knows....

LOL classic when he was talking about shogun

"you move to the side and then you fuck him up"

I learned Tai Sabaki in BJJ (bjj coach had a judo background).
After drilling the form thousands of times shit like setting up a throw/sweep etc became an almost unconscious movement.

But Machida learning to kick from Seagal (@ 1:00)... :icon_neut

^^ Agreed i would be sad if Machida tried that kick on rampage or anyone for that matter

why does everybody think that a coach have to be as good a fighter as the guys he coach? i dont get that?

would you not feel weird learning from a guy who has never fought professionally in his life?

Well, this explains why Chael Sonnen dropped Anderson Silva with a punch and why Lyoto lost his last two fights. Maybe they should resume the real training, which brought them to where they are.
