Just rewatched Jeremy Stephens vs Gilbert Melendez and it's such a fascinating fight.

It's the only fight I can think of where you could score every round as a 10-8 but no one got rocked and no one got any takedowns. Just the calf kick knocking Gilbert down over and over again.

Melendez is such a tough bastard. Never got finished by strikes in his career, but this was probably the closest. Fight probably should have been stopped in the second.

Good call. Definitely an underrated fight. Stephens was around FOREVER and has one of the lowkey best resume of opponents out of anyone who never fought for the title. I also believe Gil should have won the decision against Bendo (even though he completely fell off a cliff after this).

Think this was around the time Stephens had that late career resurgence. I remember the giblert leg chopping, the beautiful fade away flying knee he had on Denis bermudez in another crazy war and the brutal demolition job he did on Emmetts orbital bone.

Dude had some nasty finishes and toughness. Very entertaining fighter

The uppercut against RDA was monumental.

As Sherdogs resident Emmett fan, those finishing elbows can never sit well with me even if it’s such a great KO.

Yeah, he literally holds his fist with the other hand and lets it go like a heat seeking missile lol.

Running, skipping, hand-holding loading, full out punching-machine power

I thought he broke every bone in RDA’s face, it sounded like baseball bat hit him

RDAs face immediately changed the second that shot touched him.
It was like he never been hit like that, and his brain was scrambled eggs a second later lol.

Who da fook is that guy caught Gilbert at a bad time in his career. Prime giBlert would have destroyed him
I still think he beat henderson. First watch they were both so fast that I assumed henderson was landing at the same time, it wasn’t until someone uploaded it on YouTube that I could slow it down and see henderson winging shots that miss and Gilbert getting off punches so fast you couldn’t see them without slowing the fight down. Gilbert 1 2 5
