I saw this last night and was actually impressed by it. There are a lot of bad Stephen King movies but the good ones seemed to deal with kids and coming of age, Stand by Me and IT, in my opinion. The story is fairly straight forward with a steady pace throughout the movie. I can't remember the details of the original story but the movie very much is a commentary on capitalism. I am unsure as to why but the seasons where kids were shot for falling behind actually did make me cringe and feel something. I think the last movie that for me was "Bring Her Back" which had kids and was way over the top in terms of graphic violence. (I really recommend that one too. You'll love it or hate it. No in between). The story is rather simple but it is a story in my opinion that is not really about what it is about. I thought it was shot well, the pacing was kept up, all the kids had some chemistry even if each was representing a cliche/stereotype, and Mark Hamill was great as the general. I really enjoyed it and as a Stephen King fan, it felt like an tight story with a decent ending. I was not expecting to like it as much as I did and was expecting something on the level an above average horror shlock. I would give it a it solid 9/10 for what it is.

9/10? Lol it was very predictable. I liked the part where they're walking for 5 days straight and only on the first day are they eating & drinking water. Also thought it was dumb how mostly everyone was there for friendship yet the name of the game is to be the final man walking lol

I thought the final shot in the movie was stupid too.

I am too retarded to figure out how to delete this and merge it with the original movie thread. If a mod could do this it would be great.

I think the movie is more enjoyable when you view that it is a commentary on current economic policy.

So, I saw this on Saturday.

I think it was very effective in what it was trying to do, and I enjoyed it a lot. I think the casting choices were a little odd, but they added their own charm to their part ultimately.

The ending was a little ambiguous, I need to read the book again to compare. There is a big tendency to change the endings of King's novel adaptations, which is understandable because they're not for everyone.

I'm winning this easy.............

If I've got meth and there's coke and hookers at the finishing line......

@Contempt apparently there's top shelf whisky too.........

I read the original novella and wasn't impressed, so I'll be skipping this. The Running Man looks interesting, although of course it can never compete with the glory of Prime Arnold. :)

I haven't read the rest of the thread... but you already had me at coke and hookers.

Good whisky is just an extra bonus.

I saw this on Sunday. Hank (the Karate Kid) had the most realistic wish.

The book itself is one of the bleakest he's ever written. But then again it's allegorical to the Vietnam war, apparently. I was very excited for the movie, but I guess they change the ending, which I think is a bad idea. And for anyone saying the story is predictable, yeah that's the whole point. They walk until they die. You're told what's going to happen from the start and then it just gradually unfolds into bleak misery. Not really any surprises here.

I thought it was supposed to be about the Vietnam draft

Yeah I wasn't impressed with the ending change. The Mist though, now THERE is an ending change.

I want to watch it but I reeeeally don't like the idea of the new ending. I went ahead and spoiled it for myself and I'm a little ticked off by what I read
