The whole idea behind exclusivity is to somehow convert PC or console players to try different platform which to me is an utter nonsense.

Although there is plenty of PS exclusive games I am dying to play there is no force in this world and no matter how big games PS gonna release in future nothing will make me get XBOX or PS for that matter.

This article is a waste of text to be honest.

Why would putting games on PC piss off Playstation owners?

I don't think anyone expected first party releases on PC the same day they are released on Playstation. IMO the reason these games got released on PC is most likely because they have massive budgets and Sony figured they could make some extra money back by going after the PC market.

Again.. what exactly is this article trying to tell us?

Having them be a PS exclusive for 2-3 years is fine. When the games start hitting that $20 price or a greatest hits edition it's time to sell it on pc. By the time it's hit that price point, they may as well milk the game for all the money they can.

It'll be a fallback income mechanism used for under performing IP's like Days Gone.

Bingo..

FWIW I have a regular non-Pro PS4 and I held off on buying Horizon Zero Dawn because it seems like it was built for Pro and I had other stuff going on at the time. When I saw it on sale on Steam on PC I figured I'd give it a shot.. and I actually LOVE the game.

So Sony's strategy worked. I'm all in on this franchise now.

Unless Sony announces something worth buying, I ain’t touching a PS5. I’ve had plenty of opportunities to score a PS5 but it just seems like a waste of cash at the moment.

What a bizarre stance to take. You’re missing out on tons of games you’d love to play because of some elitist nonsense.

Your loss lol.

PlayStation Now allows you to play games on your pc. They're streamed though and when I tried it they only ran at 720p 30fps.

What a shame. I was dying to play some of their titles in the last few years, lost all interest now. Also never owned and never will any consoles.

I guess some of you will be happy.

Win-win is how I see it, but there are those who have taken the contrary position with Xbox over the past several years, especially when Xbox made it clear no "full exclusives" was their new strategy. 'There's no reason to own an Xbox, just buy a PC,' they said. Presumably those same people would say that about Playstation, now, as Sony once again plays catch-up with Microsoft's strategy, particularly regarding gamer-friendly policies (like backwards compatibility, and free optimization upgrades).
Asked why SIE is now embracing PC, whereas before it was hesitant to bring its games to the platform, Ryan said: “I think a few things changed.

“We find ourselves now in early 2021 with our development studios and the games that they make in better shape than they’ve ever been before. Particularly from the latter half of the PS4 cycle our studios made some wonderful, great games.

“There’s an opportunity to expose those great games to a wider audience and recognise the economics of game development, which are not always straightforward. The cost of making games goes up with each cycle, as the calibre of the IP has improved.

Swing and a miss per usual. Are you comparing all first title launches same day on Xbox/PC to a select few coming out 5 years later on PC? Lol

“Don’t expect it but it might possibly could happen some day.”

Looking forward to playing Forza and Halo day one without a Series console.
I'm sure Microsoft will appreciate your Game Pass revenue.

I tend to read that comment as anxiety management. After all, a little over a year ago, Sony execs were insisting, "Sony still believes in generations". That went out the window, and they bend over backwards now to continue accommodating PS4 gamers with releases. Ironically, the last I counted it up, in July, the total number of "next gen exclusives" counting announced releases was greater for the Xbox. Nevertheless, Sony knows theirs is the inferior machine, so I don't doubt they know they must maintain some level of software leverage as an incentive for their console. But the branding clearly indicates Sony intends to expand their PC releases which will continue to erode their "full" exclusive library. Ultimately, it isn't controversial to point out that Sony has been playing catch-up this generation with Microsoft, not the other way around, when it comes to matters of policy and strategy.

From the PC player's perspective this attachment to console exclusivity seems silly. And Day 1 is nice, but in my opinion, timing matters most with multiplayer-focused games (since popularity wanes fast), or at least those with Co-Op. For single player games, 1-2 years doesn't seem like a big deal, especially when the console generation lifespans are now 7 years. Meanwhile, multiplatform games continue to dominate sales.

Why though?

I recently got a PS5 and I love it.

. Nevertheless, Sony knows theirs is the inferior machine

Is it though?

I mean on paper, yes, PS5 is less powerful than Xbox Series X, but if you want to release on Xbox, you have to make sure the game runs on Series S.. which is far less powerful.

Meanwhile if you want to program for PS5, you can take full advantage of its power.

Series S holds Series X back.

A lot of words and moving goalposts to avoid admitting they aren’t the same situation and one console (that’s being outsold at even greater pace than the last generation) has been made effectively redundant by releasing on a superior platform at the same time.

It’s not. PS5 boasts performance on par if not better than the X consistently. Factor in the file sizes that are a fraction of the size of other platforms and the upgradability options and the PS5 is a fantastic console.

The latest example:

Mark Cerny continues to stuff Mick into a locker. Think he’s been wrong on nearly every prediction.

It is-- objectively and irrefutably.

The Series S always runs weaker versions of multiplatform games than either. The hardware is all PC hardware now, so it isn't difficult to simply nerf, similar to turning down settings on a PC. You can visit the Console Wars thread if you want to observe this. Far Cry 6 is one of the most recent examples of a multiplatform graphic monster. Yet again, it is superior on the XSX. The average pixels pushed is ~26% greater on Xbox. This is the general difference one can expect (around 20%-50% more pixels pushed with the XSX) when there is one. On occassion developers are too lazy to optimize specifically for the XSX, and it's in fact the PS5 which is holding back the ceiling range. This pixel advantage is consistent with the rough advantage in processing power for the XSX I explicated to the forum when the specs of each were fully revealed: somewhere around 30%-40% overall.

And that's where I'll entertain future comparative discussion because I don't care to derail this thread further. The great takeaway, IMO, is that PC gamers once again come away the biggest winners. Consoles are becoming more and more obsolete by the day.
