So what caused the big cut on volk?

I honestly thought that lopes somehow stole the fight but I was not paying attention enough lol. I was all for volk tho and what really had me scared was when he got a cut in round 2. This later led him to getting dropped due to him being protective of it. What caused such a big cut? Was it a grazing punch or did they clash heads during a scramble?
