Wash in washing machine with Tide Sport detergent (with Febreeze) and air dry. Once dry, sprinkle baking soda inside and let the baking soda sit for 24 hours. Pour out the baking soda and enjoy.
I've found the addition of baking soda increases the time between necessary washes of all barefoot shoes. Just washing is only good for about a week, with the baking soda I usually don't need to wash for 4-6 weeks.
Try them first. Make sure you can wear the model you want. Then make sure it actually fits you.
I couldn't fit my toes on Speeds, I could on KSOs but then the ankle part of my feet was swimming in them although the rest of the foot felt great.
Also, I could see by myself why there are so many complains about early problems. The finish in both models was deserving of a €30 shoe, not of a €130 one.
Whenever they are too smelly to bear, I just chuck them in the wash. I throw in a bit more extra detergent in the shoes themselves. I'm not the most hygienic conscious person... so about once a week for me =D
Pour a TON of odoban in your washer, set it to hot/hot, let it fill, toss in vibrams, let soak for 5 or 10 minutes then run through wash cycle. As soon as they are done, repeat.
I do this once a month and wear my trek sports EVERY day. Works great.
