First Impression

So, there it was. Finally my first Shoyoroll has arrived. I was so stoked so I quickly unpacked it. I was and I am still very impressed! The Gi comes in a bag with a Shoyoroll printed on it. The gi feels very soft and light but also durable and nicely handled.

Fit

I usually wear an A3 in gi’s (I am about 1.80 and weight around 84 kg). However this is an A2 and it fits me perfectly. The run very big. I have got a Koral MKM in A3 which is a little bit baggy on me. You can compare the size of a Shoyoroll with the size of a Koral. I would say the SYR got a very nice BJJ cut. The jacket is a little bit shorter around the waist. I like it!

Construction

So the construction is nothing special except there is some kind of thicker material in the groin area. Haven’t found out what this is really for. Like most of the gis the pants got reenforced knees. The seams are durable as far as I can tell. But there is one thing I am pretty worried about, the loops for the drawstring seem to be very thin and not that durable like the rest of the gi. Below you will find a picture.

This is my first Shoyoroll gi, until the day I unpacked this gi I couldn’t understand the hype around the Shoyoroll Brand. My opinion has completely changed. I love the gi and I am sure that this won’t be my last SYR. I paid 140 € for the gi so I think this is all worth it!

Pros:

+ Light but durable gi

+ great cut

+ nice design

Cons:

- pretty worried about drawstring loops

Nevertheless I love the gi!

5 out of 5 will see how long the loops hold up!

PS: SYR. please release some great, durable clothing!

Nice review man. My Golden State if my favorite out of my two Shoyorolls (7th Son). It just fits and shrinks better. I found the black 7th Son harder to shrink down. Maybe due to the dye? Anyways I love the white with the blue contrast of the GS. The exterior feels more coarse and the lapel is light which I like because the entire gi top wraps around my body effortlessly. BTW my loops have been holding up just fine. If it rips it's not too hard to sew it up. Just take the rope out of the loops when washing your gi pants.

SYR make sweet gi's. Just got a couple more affiliation patches sewn on my gi's today.

That syr gi bag makes a sweet patch btw;). Got mine sewn on the leg

What happened? Did you actually try it on and roll in it? I wasn't impressed until a couple of sessions later.

i tried it on. Just a rough feeling gi. I wasnt impressed with the weave as Im a fan of gold weaves and I thought the collar was thin. The overall quality of the gi did not seem any better than an 80$ fuji honestly. In fact, I could buy an 95$ padilla, or fuji, spend 70 bucks on embroidery and have something alot cooler and personolized for the same price.

hmm, weird I am actually a guy who loves gold weaves love my venum gold weave but I was really impressed by the syr. very light very soft on the skin and comfortable and I didn't feel any disadvantages while rolling (such as that my partner could get a better grip etc.)

I own a Fuji. It's nice and soft but too easy to grab. Plus the sleeves shrunk up and it's no longer comp legal on me.

I did a comparision between my fuji lightweight and my golden state and pretty much came to the same conclusion.

The guy who bought the gi is pretty much in agreement. He also bought the white mamba and is eager to see if its any better than the 7th son.

I've got a White mamba on the way as well. For what it's worth, i think my wife's 7th son is a lot nicer than my Golden state. Really hope the mamba is a lot nicer than those two though...

dang that is one nice looking gi! this is my favorite syr out of any batch.

Is the white mamba actually the same cut as the golden state?
they just got that one cut don't they?

did you notice that on the inside of the gi, where it said golden state and had the little shoyoroll logos all along the inside fading? mine is all gone now.

Yeah mine's all faded. Don't really care. Wish they removed that taping and also the taping on the sleeve.

Yea the taping on this batch are badly executed. Im sure SYR is listening and will improve on upcoming releases...hopefully.

Also looks like IBJJF is banning the inside pockets. Don't know if they had enough time to scrap those on this newest batch which production started last week. Would be a damn shame if we have to remove ourselves and risk damaging

Interesting news, where did you hear that from? Shouldn't be too difficult to remove though, couple of minutes with a stitch ripper to unpick the stitches and job done.

Regarding the posts about the SYR being the same quality as the Fuj, I'd agree with that, though I think that's not a slight on the Shoyoroll, more that the Fuji is one hell of a well put together gi.

Personally the SYR fit doesn't suit me, but a guy at my school picked up a Golden State and it fits him so well you'd swear it was designed for him. Horses for courses I guess. Still tempted to try another SYR but in a different size, will wait and see what the next batch heralds :)
