Should they start cutting fighters after every event?

Fighters that are on two or three fight losing streaks should be cut on the spot if they lose again. With roughly 700 fighters they need to start trimming the fat fast and furious style. Stop keeping the dead weight around. I think it could add excitement and push the fighters to perform if they know their job is on line.

What do you think? I say off with their heads..

They most certainly won't under Endeavor ownership.
A big part of the valuation of the UFC comes from the amount of fighters under contract and the duration of those contracts.
Higher valuation means better loan conditions. You can't overestimate the importance that has for large companies.

They cut fighters here and there if they truly believe that they don't bring value back to the company.
But they don't have a particular interest in it, as long as they don't think that a fighter costs more money than he brings in.
Winning streaks don't bother them the slightest.

they should be getting rid of more than half the roster. you should have to fight your way into the top 20, if you're not in that, you're out. problem is, they need to keep putting out mundane cards with their espn deal. the days of getting stacked af cards every few months are over. the main event last night was a joke. how that headlined a card is crazy. that wasn't even WEC level.

On the spot as in as soon as the fight's over and while they're still in the Octagon?

That could be fun. Bruce can make it part of the end fight announcements.
it should be like tekken / mortal kombat style. you know once the decision is read, it's absolutely over.

The UFC should be a lean top 25 only in each division, with a few exceptions for established fighters on their way out. They should have a development league which should be a glorified regional, but the guys should be elite and paid well in the top 25.

This would never happen though, as the business model for tuned for the ESPN meat grinder.

If you only have the top 20 then what happens when you want to cut someone and everyone from 21-50 is under contract elsewhere?

you then use the money you saved not having 1000s of filler, and you simply purchase them. like they have done.

There's about 20% roster turnover annually among active (ie fought in the past 12 months) roster. That includes retirements.

I mostly agree, but there would need to be exceptions for sure. High ranked guys that take on elite competition consistently might not deserve it even after 3.

i mean you can, but that's not what i'm saying. UFC did buy strikeforce and Pride FC, worked out pretty well for them i'd say.

Yeah but they can't really do anything like that again because of the anti-trust lawsuit.

Say if they want AJ McKee, it's not as simple as just taking him if he's under contract.

Yeah it should only be after you start losing outside the rankings imo. Otherwise you get guys being cut for being at a higher level then falling back while people they beat before are still there.

For example people wanted Cutelaba cut after his last fight, but he easily beat Devin Clark and Khalil Rountree and they're both still there.
