This is a heated debate in which I am torn. I think that for a franchise with such a history of players and a legacy it is hard to fathom someone who only played 6 seasons being honored with a jersey retirement. However those 6 years were legendary and revived the franchise.

Pros
Gave life back to the franchise
Earned their lone championship spanning two decades
All-Star and DPOY while playing with BOS
Solid numbers through 6 years: 15.7pts/8.3reb/2.7ast/1.2stl/1.0blk (6k points, 3k rebs, 1k assists)

Cons
Mainly known as the greatest franchise player of the Wolves
Played only 6 years in BOS
Tough roster of retired players (Bird, McHale, Russell, Cousy, Havlicek, Parish, Sam Jones) & Franchise Legacy
Pierce was the face & the Finals MVP, Allen and Rondo also major reasons for Celts success.

the answer to 3 out of your 4 cons, with Miami Shaq as example:

- Shaq mainly known as the greatest franchise player of Orlando
- Only played 4 years in Miami
- Wade was the face & the Finals MVP

Then again, it's Miami. They retired MJ's number for crying out loud.

No. KG should be remembered as a T-Wolf. The team you run to for a few years, to win a ring, shouldn't get the honor IMO.

Lmao @ being torn over a team you've been a fan of for less than a year.

No, imo you only should get your number retired on the team you played the most and/or did the most. Some getting 3-4 jersey retirements is ridiculous. He's the greatest T-wolf ever, will be remembered most for that, him and Marbury lifted that franchise up. Didn't win there but played his best.

Yes. He was the leader of the culture change. The only con on not retiring it is the C's have too many retired numbers as is.

No, because he's a whiny bitch fake tough guy

Marbury was gone before the wolves got good.

If they want to retire it, I don't care. He deserves all the respect he can get. Straight up baller. Played 100% every night on both ends.

they went from bad to going to the playoffs. it's not about lack of respect if honors are awarded similarly across the board. one team is enough, imo, though it's not that big of a deal. you don't need a wall of shirts in every arena, have the ones that stick out.

That was a completely different squad than was any good. Marbury was only on two playoff teams. He was quickly dealt for Terrell Brandon when he got all butt hurt about the team being centered around Garnet. Brandon was a better pg anyways. Marbury was the most overrated pg besides Rondo ever to lace up his shoes. I don't think any team was actually better for having Marbury.

Made the playoffs back to back and for the first time when Marbury came in, that's what lifting up a franchise is. What they do 5 years later doesn't have anything to do with that, as the lifting has already been done. Lifted KG's game up as well. Too much on Rondo, he knows how to run a offense unlike most guards today and defends. His impact was visible in these playoffs as well, as the Bulls sucked when he got hurt.

It sounds like a nice idea.

Yeah, this counts towards his HoF resume, but only one Celtic on that crew deserves to have his jersey retired, and that's Pierce.
