MODS SORRY ABOUT POSTING THIS ORIGINALLY IN MAYBERRY, I MEANT TO START THIS IS HERE.

Thought I would start a discussion since this is the news of the day in the sports world and of course it leaks over into the political world as well.

As you may or may not know, Sterling (owner of the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers) was recorded by his ex-girlfriend saying how he didn't want her brining blacks to the games, etc.

Some people including Al Sharpton have called for him to lose his franchise. Basically because what he said, people don't like, then he should lose the right to own the Clippers.

A couple of points before I say my 10 cents.

1. Sterling is a known/outed racist. He had to pay a couple million dollars in a lawsuit because he would not rent apartment that he owned to black/latino people.

2. Elgin Baylor (one of the greatest ball players ever) filed a discrimination suit against him after being released from his job after almost 22years (the suit was rejected/denied).

3. Multiple players have stated he is abusive to them verbally. Baron davis said that he would come and sit in the stands and yell at his own players about why the are playing or shooting the ball.

4. Sterling talked about minorities while his girlfriend recorded it, HIS GIRLFRIEND IS A LATINO.

5. Sterling has filed a lawsuit against the woman (way before this happened) because he says she embezzled 2 million dollars.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK FIRST OFF

This of course is a set up, who sits around and records conversations between them and their boyfriend, especially with him not knowing. This doesn't take away from anything that he said, but she intentionally planned and apparently got him riled up enough to start blurting crap out about her hanging around certain people.

I don't want to hear jack shit from coach DOC RIVERS, CHRIS PAUL or any other player that willingly signed a contract with that teaming knowing that the owner is an outed racist. Rivers left Boston to sign a 21 million dollar deal. Chris paul signed upwards of 110 million. Apparently it is ok to be racist and work for a racist owner as long as he is paying you millions of dollars. They could of went to any team in the league but THEY CHOSE TO PLAY FOR A KNOWN RACIST OWNER. As an American they have their right to an opinion, But I don't want to hear that they are surprised that a racist owner said something racist. If they fell truly that bad about it, then they never should have signed in the first place.

Let's see how much the general public and fans care about this. Let's see their next home game and see how many empty seats there are. Of course sports talk radio is acting like this is the end of the world, but lets see how much people actually care about what a 80 year old white dude says. I am of the opinion that if I spend $400 to go see black dudes dunk a basketball, then I don't give two shits about what some 80 year old dude says about his minority girlfriend bring other minorities to the game.

I also can't believe (although in this day and age, I know I should) that people are calling for him to lose his franchise. I know what he said is crazy as hell but it is not illegal to be racist or say racist shit. I can see him getting fined or suspended, but to straight up lose a franchise because he said crap that people don't agree with?

What say you?

While I agree that they can't/shouldn't take his stuffs, the point you're trying to make here.. I lol'd.

Like I said, the have a right to their opinion, it's just that I couldn't care less about it since they willingly took the money from a POS person.

He should lose his franchise.

The NBA promotes equality. Donald Sterling is a proven-by-the-fucking-courts 100% racist. It's bad for business for the NBA itself. He needs to sell the ownership of his franchise or the NBA need to kick out the Clippers from the league.

Does the NBA even have the authority to take teams away from their owners under certain conditions?

If they do have that authority and his actions meet the criteria then it's up to them.

If it's the government that does it than it's definitely an overreach.

I don't think the NBA has the authority to kick him out

They HAVE the authority to kick the Clippers out, though.

He should lose his franchise because his gold digger girlfriend recorded him and released (sold) his private comments, likely out of context, to the media?

I could understand banning him if he didn't allow black people to play on his team but calling for a ban on someone over a recorded private conversation is reactionary hysteria at best.

So hurt the countless people employed by the Clippers organization because a gold-digger decided to release (likely for money) some comments made to her by an idiot owner to the media?

The hysteria caused by the media has you by the balls.

Not allowing black people to play on his team should be his punishment. It would be great to see him go bankrupt. He is one of the worst owners of all time in the NBA and has a history of making these terrible comments. The guy needs a wake-up call.

Under his horrible ownership how many people are employed by the organization and how many black men have become millionaires? The guy may be a piece of shit but it seems like a lot of people are benefiting from his owning the team regardless of the ignorant words he uses.

Obviously, given his history for making ignorant comments, this will all be forgotten in a week when the media jumps all over the next alleged "racism" story complete with Obama's opinion on the matter.

There is nothing the media loves more than pushing anything that can be pawned off as "racism."

he loves black people. he clothes, feeds and buys cars for his black players. what else do you expect from the guy?

I agree, on the other hand I wouldnt blame any black player who says he doesnt want to play for a team that is owned by this man. In the end if enough people refuse to play for him. He either sells and take the money or he makes a point and keep the team to send a message and lose money. Anyway Paul is gone now, he was gonna leave anyway, but now he has the perfect getaway

Did Obama weigh in? That's hilarious and sad if he did. This is some serious tabloid news.

secret recordings, gold digging mistress, you won't believe what was caught on tape, extra extra

Is it still alleged? Is it or is it not racism?

The same amount of millionaires would have been made no matter who owned the team. You seem to be stuck on the gold digger selling the recording and not the douche that was recorded.

So when Obama is asked about it in presser, he should just say "no comment"? Why would a black guy care or have an opinion....right?

lol.

I hope you're joking.

And 'bullying.'
The two greatest buzzwords in the last little bit. Before that, everything was 'terrorism.'

The embarrassing thing is that people give so much shit about a few words, when there are way way more pressing problems then what some dude says in the comfort of his own home.

If he banned colored people from the stadium, or refused to employ colored players, or beat up (got someone to beat up) a random guy on the street, then we have a problem.

Actions hurt, not words. Let's stop crying about nothing.

no..

it's not illegal to be a racist jackass..

This is my opinion, let the people decide. If they stop showing up or protest every night then maybe he will have to do something, but my feelings are that no one really gives a shit about what some old turd said to his gold digging flavor of the month.

Of course the NBA will fine him but other than that move on.
