I think the extreme weight cut hampers his cardio at 170. A soft puncher like Jackson was able to rock him. I think his chin holds up much better at 185 without the taxing cut.
Further, WW is filled with wrestlers with excellent top control like Colby, Woodley and Usman which I think is the perfect style to beat him. If he goes up to MW, I see him and his submission skills giving problems to a lot of top 10 fighters. The standing guillotine he snatched on Jackson was slick, and he would have had it had it not been for his depleted cardio at the weight class.
His sick Jitz can give a lot of fighters at MW a run for their money.
IMO, he is the perfect replacement against Jacare, as Romero has dropped out. If that fight goes to the ground, it is a grappling fan's wet dream. I feel like he can secure a kimura from side control on Jacare if he plays his cards right, or cruise to a comfortable 30-26 through positional control. If the jitz cancels out, I see a plodding striking battle, but I have Punk by KO as his knees are vicious, and Jacare has been knocked out in the past. It would suck for me if this fight is made as I am a huge Jacare fan and I hope to see him getting a title shot before he retires, but this is just too good of a stylistic matchup to pass on!
How do you feel Punk does against the elite at MW? I feel he loses to Bobby Knuckles in a close decision, but he can pretty much have his way on the ground against the rest.
With the right matchups, we could be looking at a new young and exciting contender at MW!

Yes and he should fight Lombard

I think he should transfer to Rizin, juice his body with crazy chemicals and fight Gabi Garcia

Modafferi vs CM Punk in leg kicks only fight.

He should move up to Heavyweight and fight DC. DC was a good wrestler, but that was amateur wrestling. Punk was a Professional wrestler. And it's time he starts using that to win some fights.

Hector Lombard is in need of a win. CM Punk vs Hector, book it Dana.

I feel like it wouldnt make much difference if Punk was allowed to bring a weapon to the octagon tbh.

he should go heavies. or lhw. he had most success there in wwe. the weight cut drains him. lhw is probaby best fit. he has always been vulnerable against true heavyweights. triple h, the rock, undertaker, Nash & lesnar all smoked him. he could dominate 205. it is a very light division. he looked invulnerable against the light heavies in wwe. they had nothing for him. it was only the size difference vs the rock that waylayed him. even then he was still competitive. he just couldnt impose his ground game & he got caught with the rock bottom as he fatigued towards the end. But anybody can get caught with the rock bottom. I dont think its fair to criticise him for that. even austin & hogan struggled vs the rock. even prime lesnar struggled. the rock has under rated stand up

He shouldn't be fighting in the UFC and you should use paragraphs.

Well i know he isnt UFC caliber part of me is disappointed we never got to see him get absolutely KTFO. Feed him to Costa at 185. Im with you ts.

Seriously imagine CM Punk vs Yoel Romero. Whoever sanctions that fight should have to be a Pallbearer at Phillips funeral.

Good post TS. Ignore the haters at Sherdog.

Punk used to wrestle at 218lbs at HW against guys like Lesnar. Obviously Punk cutting both height and weight is causing some issues as he is too weak to compete at 170lbs.

I think a better chin and more cardio would just lead to more prolonged and painful ass whoopings

also take into account punk was not 100% when he faced the rock. whereas the rock was fresh. Punk had racked up about 40 defences before he even stepped in the ring with rock. He had just come out of a trilogy with ryback. he was very active that year and I think it took its toll. it was too much to expect him to go in there vs a fresh rock. Rock had been resting for 10 months and was gifted a title shot. it was obvious mcmahon wanted the belt off punk. he wanted cena vs rock at mania for the belt

in hindsight he should.have stood his ground & declined the match vs the rock. let rock & cena fight for the interim belt. he would have been well within his rights. but that is just the kind of competitor cm punk is . Does not back down, as we saw vs Michael jackspn. he has too much pride

The WWE wouldn't want to devalue the Legitimacy of their championship belts like that. It's not like they can just make up new belts in wrestling.
