If it's true the rumors of DDP injured, what's Chimaev options?

Should the UFC do a interim title fight with Chimaev and Nassourdine Imavov?

Thoughts?

If he wins, we’d be forced to wait another year or two before he’d unify with Driscus. No thanks.
Why? At this moment he seems to be injury-free and ready to go.

Easiest solution if Dricus comes back and Khamzat gets injured before their potential fight, would be to let Dricus fight Caio or someone for an interim again.

This is all just if it's even true that Dricus is injured at this moment.

You're arguing for a position that would stall MW longer, because you think Khamzat would stall longer if he won? Because you don't like him?

If they stripped DDP and made an interim when he couldn't (if true) defend in about 6 months, why wouldn't they strip Khamzat and make another interim fight if he couldn't defend within a year?

Wow that’s bright. Strip the champ and then make him fight for yet another interim on account of a guy who fights once a year? Dricus is only marginally better, but at least he doesn’t have to fight around ramen don and an entitled need to fight in the sand box.

I get that you’re desperate to see Chimaev wear a belt, and though I don’t share this sentiment (based on his inactivity and blatantly outspoken extremist tendencies), I do still actually want to see this fight. Just not the way TS, or you, are proposing it.

When he was coming up, he was fighting very often. He then had well documented problems with injuries and sickness.

Last camp and fight he was healthy. He seems to be healthy now.

Before his last fight he was very open about how many of his previous health-issues were related to him overtraining and he also mentioned the steps he has taken to correct it. That in itself should make it less likely that he would be an inactive champion.

His inactivity would had been largely forgotten if he had gotten the title fight instead of Strickland, which was a waste of time.

I would support an interim fight being made if Dricus is out for a long time, just as I would support an interim fight being made if Khamzat was champ and was out for a long time.

If it only needs to be pushed back a month or two there's no need for it.

When someone is undefeated and clearly at the Aspinall/Topuria/Islam level of talent I prefer to see them get a title fight sooner rather than later.
Especially since Khamzat has won 3 number one contenders fights already (Burns, Usman and Whittaker).

Your answer confirmed my suspicion that you dislike him for personal reasons (his "extremism").

I never said strip the champ. Not sure what you are talking about.

Burns was perhaps a #1 contender match for Giblert, but not Chimaev.

Chimaev sat out for a year after beating Usman, and pulled out of his first date with Whittaker. He simply wasn’t ready to go when the champ and former champ were.

Between the Illness, injury, and reported visa issues, it makes zero sense to give this guy an interim belt and further limit matchmaking options at MW. Although, we all know that UFC has zero issue with not unifying belts and letting the undisputed champ continue to take other fights.

Khamzat was ranked #11 on a big winstreak when he beat #2 Burns. That will usually earn you a titleshot. Khamzat and his team were told that the winner would get a titleshot, then the whole Diaz-thing happened.

Usman fight, Dana said that the winner would get the titleshot vs Strickland (Usman beat him at WW). Whittaker fight as well.

Dana said he wants Khamzats next fight in the states, presumably because the visa issues have been sorted out with Khamzat becoming a citizen of UAE and Trump becoming president.

Injury/illness-situation also addressed by changing team and more focus on recovery.

I don't personally see the harm in an interim fight if Dricus is out for a long time, because there's starting to become a backlog of viable title challengers at MW (Khamzat, Imavov and Caio).

Are you really thinking Khamzat would duck Dricus if he became champ? Is that was your last sentence alludes to?

Seems like the obvious thing to do and what will probably happen unless is a minor injury

The problem with interim belts is that champions, for some obscure reason, do not seem obliged to unify anymore. But sure, if it will make Khamzat fight, give him a prop belt. At least DDP will go for it once healthy, unlike some old goat.

khamzat cant fight in america. so no he shouldnt get an interm title shot.
