Most of the guys that come to mind as having great jabs in boxing were tall and had reach for their weight class. What are some good examples of guys who were disadvantaged in that area but still had good jabs?

Cotto is a good choice, although I still think his body attack is better than his jab.

Really not too many. If you're generally the shorter man you're better off working a different angle than a stiff jab.

Cotto, Tyson, Whitaker was pretty short and Quartey wasn't huge. Frazier had a half decent jab, as well. If you want to look at MMA, Cormier has outjabbed every single opponent so far despite height and reach disadvantages. It is a big reason he is able to get inside at will.

Ike Quartey might have the best jab and he was only 5'7' at welterweight and junior middleweight.

Camacho had a great jab..he was shortish

ya, he wasn't particularly short for his division, 5-6 and a half but he fought lots of guys 5-8 and above. I've been watching plenty of his fights lately, when he was young he used the jab well, when he became less hungry he started to use the jab to keep a guy from coming in, not even landing it, I watched part of the Chavez fight today, when they say he wasn't in his prime, he absolutely wasn't, he really didn't try to land to many punches, was more defensive, but the problem was, you can't keep a guy off of you if nothings coming back at him. So Chavez was able to just walk in and throw. Also, macho's reflexes were going, he was getting hit with silly right hands which the young macho would never have had a problem with. I learned to jab watching macho as a kid, he had a jab somewhat like Ali's, not really a power punch but a constant flick. Oh, what wasted talent.

tyson had an ok jab and claimed that it was all about timing, at his best he outjabbed taller men. Pryor used his jab very well against arguello, can't think of too many "fireplugs" who used the jab well, Dwight Muhammad Qawi was a 5-7 lightheavy and I don't remember him wearing out the jab, was Hamed any good with the jab? I know whitaker was so sharp he could land anything he wanted at his best.

Did you watch him in his prime, before he got into the drugs? Anything up to the Spinks fight, he went downhill after that.

Jerry Martin, Eddie Davis, James SCott, Saad 1+2, Mike Rossman, those fights were peak Qawi. I remember him busting up saad pretty good with the jab.

nope, all i remember is he was a very unusual fighter in that he never fought before he turned pro.

He also turned pro late in his mid to late 20's. Inspite of this he became incredibly sound technically, fought like a cross between Archie Moore and Tyson, his skills eroded after his addiction problems overtook his life.

Liston was 6'1" in an era that made Clay look big. He had the biggest heavyweight reach of almost anyone in history.

Not sure that is what TS was looking for, though true.

did qawi really? I probably seen 3 of his fights, don't remember much jabbing.

I'm a little surprised you aren't familiar with Qawi. He fought Spinks twice and Saad Muhammad....

You know he was Dwight Braxton I assume?
