How would the hardest punchers ever in MMA like Rumble Johnson, Shane Carwin, Mark Hunt etc compare to guys like George Foreman, Earnie Shavers, Mike Tyson? Obviously the MMA fighters would lose in a straight up boxing match but in terms of single shot power, I really think a guy like Shane Carwin, who knocked out Gonzaga with a 6 inch punch, and weighs 290 lbs of solid muscle, actually punches harder than the aforementioned boxing guys, who all weighed 210-220ish in their primes. Mass X Velocity equals power. The weight behind a punch is a huge factor in punching power and Carwin wasn't slow by any means, dude was a very explosive athlete that was on his way to being a 1st round NFL pick before his back/knee injuries. The size of someone's hands is another bonus in terms of punching power and Carwin definitely had bigger hands than Foreman, Shavers or Tyson.

Power is very subjective. For example, I believe Aldo's punch on Mcgregor were stronger, but Mcgregor put him to sleep placing it in the right place, time and distance.

IMO boxers hit harder, since it's what they train for. The technique is much superior. But who knows

You could argue that it takes a harder punch to KO someone in MMA because of the smaller surface area. Ultimately, it comes down to timing and placement more than raw power alone.

Until Joe Louis fights Kimbo Slice, we'll never know.

well, he did KO an ex-skateboarder with one hand tied behind his back.

In terms of raw power, I see 2002 Bob Sapp as having some of the hardest punches period. He knocked around Ernesto Hoost with technically unsound shots.
That said, in terms of KO ability, precision and timing are more important.

Fallon Fox has more cock knockout power.

Because of the size, and all.

It took Carwin like 3 uppercuts to KO Mir. Then 3 more shots to kill him, and another 20 or so to make double sure.

Tyson would have done all this with 1 punch.

It usually just comes down to who was born with it. Technique helps a lot but lots of mma fighters can throw technically sound punches and some ATG boxers had pretty mediocre mechanics at times (Holyfields slappy overhand comes to mind).

In no way shape or form does any mma fighter punch anywhere near as powerful as Tyson, to say otherwise is ridiculous and should be treated with utter contempt, I love mma and everything about it but Tyson was a fucking animal the likes of which we may never see again, just crushing power and from a very early age, look up his amateur fights, I'm not small and I can certainly handle myself but I have no shame in saying 16 year old Tyson would kill me. Dead.

You can't equate those shots. Carwin is, very much, arm punching there while Mike throws with his legs and upper body. Mike had more one shot knockouts than Foreman too but Foreman is universally acknowledged as the harder puncher.

Well.... Imagine Tyson fighting in those little 4 oz gloves. He would frightfully had more power.

What punch? The one punch that landed while he himself was already unconscious?

You really came to that conclusion based off that exchange?

True, but that's kinda my point.
Carwin might be bigger and stronger, but I've never seen him create as much power on a shot as Tyson b/c he didn't have the technique

Power is anything but subjective mate, it's definitively decisive. Aldosm punch glanced of Conor, Conor slept Aldo, it wasn't just precision, it was the harder punch.
