For the longest time, I couldn't place what looked so familiar about Strickland's style but it just occurred to me that everything he does is fundamental to the style of Wing Chun.
  • Handtrapping
  • Narrow stance
  • Straight punches (the only punches he likes throwing)
  • Front kicks (the only kicks he likes throwing)
  • Deflecting punches rather than using head movement
  • Blocking with elbows
  • Staying upright
  • Focusing on the centerline
The funny way in which he parries kicks is also remarkably similar to the way Wing Chun teaches.

Wing Chun best base for MMA confirmed? He should start a Wing Chun MMA gym.

I knew my create-a-characters in Sudden Impact were onto something

Interesting analysis and comparison, but horrible conclusion.

Maybe Strickland uses Wing Chun-type techniques, but how in the world does that suddenly make Wing Chun "the best base" for MMA???

In no universe is Strickland "the best MMA fighter," so how in all of the galaxies and beyond did you draw that conclusion?

Maybe go rewatch how easy Strickland was for Pereira to pick apart and destroy ...

Excellent to know... I'd been losing sleep wondering when I'd see the closest thing to Wing Chun in UFC.

Restful sleep, here I come!

Have you ever heard of this thing call a "joke"?

besides Tony Ferguson and Sean i havent seen many other fighters utilize Wing Chun in their offense/defense

Wing chun will help a casual person in a street fight better than doing nothing. Even in a McDojo with taekwondo or karate will help. These martial arts teach discipline to children and are a form of exercise for health.

Anderson Silva did try to implement Wing Chun but in reality the sort of hand trapping he tried to do was always worse than his head movement

Sean doesn't have great head movement but handtrapping seems to work out really well for him.

But yesterday it was the Philly Shell?!?

Not sure why people think he uses the philly shell. He stands far too square, the philly shell relies on a lead foot far forward so you can utilize a nice shoulder roll. Bobby Green and Dustin use a bit of that, but not Sean.

What about Segal style. We all forgot?

hows taste?

American Wing Chun is #verygreat style created by esteemed actor martial artist Steven Seagal. It was been use by such fighters as Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Just like #warrior Seagal, Strickland was once doubted for his legitimacy in martial art competitions. Then, many years later he prove legitimate.

As we see, American Wing Chun also involve being underdog in life, something #Izzy was not yet ready given his privilege upbringing. #amazing style but it is a birth right given to those who suffer #childabuse, body shame, or being so poor that you cannot afford proper train
