Let's image a grappling match (no strikes, no MMA) between a sambo praticioner and a freestyle wrestler held on a wrestling/sambo mat (no ring, no cage).
Both at the same weight, same age, same experience, same level.
The sambo player (I mean sport sambo and not combat or freestyle sambo) wears a sambo gi with sambo shoes, he can use throws, armbars (wrists, elbow, shoulders) and leg locks (ankle and knees) but no pins and no chokes.
The wrestler wears a singlet and he relies only in his freestyle wrestling techniques (so no chokes, no armlocks, ecc.).
How do you see this scenario? Is the wrestler too stong for the sambo player? Or is the sambo too complete on the ground for the wrestler?

Sambo guys are very strong. The difference here isn't really a matter of strength. The Sambo player will be at a disadvantage because he is used to grabbing the opponents kurtka just like Judo players are used to grabbing opponents gi. Sambo does use a great deal of wrestling as it is a culmination of a bunch of folk styles mixed with Judo. The Sambo player does have an advantage of being able to go after submissions once on the ground whereas the wrestler can't really do anything to threaten the Sambo player.

The scenario would be....weird.

I feel like youre off by a mile with this idea. Comparing Sambo to BJJ would be a much better idea. They both involve the submission game. Unless youre gunna award a win to the wrestler for a pin. Also youve taken away chokes and armlocks...so basically youre saying the wrestler cant look to finish the fight...but the Sambo player can use his best weapons to end it? I wish I could downvote posts

it really does not matter what style they use, at the end of the day the better more experienced grappler will win. it really just depends on who wants it more and who has better cardio. Every person is differnent. to really get a true test you have to have them go at each other under their respective rules sets first. ahvethem do a sambo match, then have them do a freestyle wrestling match, then do an mma style match or submission only match to really get the answer you are looking for.

I think the wrestler would probably hold him down and get a decision but on the other hand I could see the sambo guy getting a leglock.

Wrestling doesn't have armlocks and sport sambo doesn't have chokes.
So wrestler can only slam or pin sambo guy to the ground. Sambo guy can only thow wrestler on the ground and once on the ground armlocking, leglocking or pinning him.
