I know I know they dont use belts, but I heard way back then that they want to add a belt system like BJJ in order to gain more popularity. Did this project go on or it didnt come to fruition?
Btw In some places of Brasil, Sambo has a weird belt system but it doest seems it is unified.

Sambo has ranking system, but no visible attributes. I have never heard that they wanted to adopt one. I do not think judo or sambo popularity is dependent on the belt color choice.

On this instructional video, they separate the techniques according to the "Belt" they are supposed to be taught. Don´t know how legit these guys are, haven´t found any information on them. Maybe it is a thing that they did (it´s an old video, maybe they aren´t teaching anymore), to get either more people to train with them and to make money by doing promotions, who knows...they are Spanish guys BTW

Currently, the ranking system of Sambo is the Master of Sport system, used for all sports in USSR and some countries in the Eastern Bloc.

MoS (Master of Sport) title is awarded, based on medaling in national and international competitions.

It is also tied with social security plan, allowing for athletes to compete and retire with a pension.

Now, the pension is estimated by military and LEO ranks, so when one athlete wins the national championship, he gets military rank as well. And he gets military pension, according to that rank.

No such system exists outside of the above mentioned countries and that is why FIAS now introduced new, color belt system, so the ranking around the world will be the same.

Because if not, then USA (for example) can have thousands of practitioners, who will never get their respective ranking (its impossible to implement MoS in USA or anywhere else, outside of the Eastern Bloc).

And since Sambo is now an Olympic sport, shooting for hosting the first Sambo Olympic competition in Paris 2024, the new system must be in place by then.
Why?
Because IOC has certain criteria and regulations for all Olympic sports.

FIAS is now clearing all of them and introducing minor changes.

New belt colors are same as in Judo, but will be worn as belt patches similar to the red part of the BJJ BB.

So much to be learned from the MoS system. Does it exist outside of Sambo? I think it exists in judo IIRC but it does not in wrestling?

sambo in america is a joke. russian sambo is good. btw russians refer to sambo as russian judo kinda like how greco roman freestyle and folkstyle are all considered wrestling in the us.

i say its a joke in usa because the guys doing it usually dont come in already with a judo/wrestling background like the soviet countries do

i fee to be very good at sambo you need to be quite athletic and have a base thats why they dominate ith it you can tell theirs a massive difference in the flow of how they do it vs in other countries

id say its a lot like catch wrestling youllg et tons of just half ass takedown guys who arnt super athletic then you get a real wrestler in curran who comes out and wins the world catch championship while being out weighted by over 50 pounds in matches cause he actually had a base in wrestling to begin with
