I don't know why the fuck anyone would buy ultra expensive beer when they could get a nice sized bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne for much less than that.

The beer "is unlike pretty much any other beer on the market," wrote journalist Chris Morris for Fortune. "It’s not carbonated because the alcohol levels devour any CO2. Its taste is akin to a fine liquor, with a sweetness like a port or cognac and a smooth, almost buttery, malt-filled finish."

Utopias has been around for ages. It's more cognac than beer. It smells amazing. I've had a few iterations of it. It's very good.

$240 sounds about right. It lasts a good amount of time if you take care of it. Some years have gone for upwards of $500.

I would rather have this than a bottle of wine, by the way. To each their own.

Who the fuck buys Sam Adams and who would spend $240 on it? Also if its not carbonated its not Beer IMO.

It isn't beer. I think it's excellent. I've known people to spend thousands on vintage PVW bottles or wine. Not necessarily my jam at that cost. I think Utopias is as good, but it's all relative. It's just what you prefer. I've spent $400 on a single DBA 12 ounce bottle of beer that is incredibly rare a few years back when I got a mid five figures bonus from work. It was worth every cent.

Back in the day at least, the much cheaper booze beer was that Dogfishhead IPA they only released in single bottles and was 15-20% alcohol.

I don't drink enough anymore to know if it's still around.

I do understand it's not exactly comparable but it's what I used to think of as the affordable booze beer.

It's still around. Their worldwide is my favorite stout of theirs.
